Plugins not compatible
-
Almost all the plugins now say “not compatible”. What should we do to make it compatible? Is there some announcement?
-
Hi @jakubvrana, all necessary info should be available here on our new website dedicated to plugin system.
-
One of the core reasons for windy is because of the Sounding plugin which is far superior to the soundings provided by windy. It consistently gets cloudbase and the thermal heights right which the windy thermal layer never does (at least in a way that is useful to me.
Getting rid of this is a disaster for all the paraglider pilots I know around the world. Please either replace your (relatively crap) sounding with the one that Victor created or re-enable to the sounding plugin and ideally please replace your height of thermals with Victor's code which is consistently accurate!
Gutted!
-
Just to put this in perspective...
Victor has a a buymeacoffee link he only enabled a week ago and has already had €1000 of coffees. This shows how appreciated his plugin was.
Please, please please re-enable this
-
This is very bad news. Without the Sounding Plugin, there is almost no point in using Windy over other platforms for Paragliding.
-
What does it mean here ?
Is it a temporary technical incompatibility of the Sounding plugins, or a an enforced policy to only have the default Skew-T function ?
As mentioned by others right above: it is useless without the level of enhancements that the Sounding plugin brought...
-
To me Victors Sounding plugin is one of the most important features when using windy.
Please fix this, without it, windy is broken!!! -
Dear @Suty,
Thank you, I have looked there, but cannot understand how that answers @jakubvrana 's questions. Please may I ask why the Sounding plugin from Victor would now not work as it has done for some years?
As @Stephan-Brand says, it is very bad news for us if it cannot be enabled very soon. This time of year for the weeks ahead we would expect to make heavy use of Victor's work.
If you can give us some feedback soon, it would be very welcome.
Best regards Nigel

@Suty Apologies, I see that I misread the message when i went to the plugin and saw that it said 'windy has it's own' and really stopped there and didn't appreciate that it will work again once the code has been updated.
Apologies

Hey all,
I'm Victor the developer of the sounding plugin (and of flyxc.app).
The plugin was created about 6 years ago (17y for flyxc).
The development effort is hundreds of hours a year. If you like it, would like to see it maintained, or want new functionalities please consider sponsoring my work at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/vic.b
The plugin should be working again in a few days.
Thanks

@Suty I've updated the plugin to the new system. It works in the dev mode. It still says it's not compatible. What do I need to do to re-enable it in Windy plugins list?

Vic kindly messaged me on his buymeacoffee page and informed me that windy did communicate in advance and have come up with a good solution and also pointed out I should show some love to the windy team...
I use windy almost everyday and I love it. I am super sorry for growling, it was not nice and overall I am massively grateful that this amazing resource exists.
I do think it would be brilliant if windy would/could use the algorithm that Vic has developed for the thermal tops and I'd rather his plugin was the actual sounding option as almost everyone in paragliding uses it around the world.
Most of all, thank you to the team at Windy for giving us a product that is so good. -
I'm making progress on the sounding plugin. I still have some work to do on the mobile UI and a few things here and there but I should be able to publish an ok version most probably on Friday - the sounding looks good for tomorrow and I'll go check if it's not a bug :)
Thanks for your patience.
Thanks to the windy team for this awesome site and platform.

Hello
Windy is the best application for flight preparation for me and my numerous balloonists.
We use the Trajectory plugin.
Now I had to realize that this plugin can no longer be used.
Is there a way to reactivate this great plugin?
We balloon pilots would need this urgently and would be really grateful if it could be used again.
Thanks & soft landing -
@vicb Hi vicb
Is the Trajectory plugin also yours? -
@BallPic-0 The trajectory plugin is being ported by @rittels
traj should be up and running soon.
-
@vicb, thanks for porting the better sounding plugin! I can confirm that it works after going through the new "install" step, and then entering the plugin via the menu. On mobile, I had a hard time finding the plugin list / install workflow, and resorted to manually opening https://www.windy.com/plugins (no more trailing slash).
One thing I noticed is that plugins now seem to have proper URLs, so it could be possible to bookmark and share a full windy view using a plugin. This is excellent for power users. Hopefully, this will also enable us to share a plugin view with others, with a sensible install workflow when the plugin is not installed in that particular browser yet. Currently, when opening a URL like https://www.windy.com/plugin/sdg/48.612/-122.425?clouds,48.612,-122.425,10, I am getting high CPU usage and not much progress. This is in Firefox 122 on Linux, and Firefox 124 on Android. A profile on desktop looks like this:

I am seeing similar hanging behavior in Chromium.
