Plugins not compatible
-
Hey all,
I'm Victor the developer of the sounding plugin (and of flyxc.app).
The plugin was created about 6 years ago (17y for flyxc).
The development effort is hundreds of hours a year. If you like it, would like to see it maintained, or want new functionalities please consider sponsoring my work at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/vic.b
The plugin should be working again in a few days.
Thanks

@Suty I've updated the plugin to the new system. It works in the dev mode. It still says it's not compatible. What do I need to do to re-enable it in Windy plugins list?

Vic kindly messaged me on his buymeacoffee page and informed me that windy did communicate in advance and have come up with a good solution and also pointed out I should show some love to the windy team...
I use windy almost everyday and I love it. I am super sorry for growling, it was not nice and overall I am massively grateful that this amazing resource exists.
I do think it would be brilliant if windy would/could use the algorithm that Vic has developed for the thermal tops and I'd rather his plugin was the actual sounding option as almost everyone in paragliding uses it around the world.
Most of all, thank you to the team at Windy for giving us a product that is so good. -
I'm making progress on the sounding plugin. I still have some work to do on the mobile UI and a few things here and there but I should be able to publish an ok version most probably on Friday - the sounding looks good for tomorrow and I'll go check if it's not a bug :)
Thanks for your patience.
Thanks to the windy team for this awesome site and platform.

Hello
Windy is the best application for flight preparation for me and my numerous balloonists.
We use the Trajectory plugin.
Now I had to realize that this plugin can no longer be used.
Is there a way to reactivate this great plugin?
We balloon pilots would need this urgently and would be really grateful if it could be used again.
Thanks & soft landing -
@vicb Hi vicb
Is the Trajectory plugin also yours? -
@BallPic-0 The trajectory plugin is being ported by @rittels
traj should be up and running soon.
-
@vicb, thanks for porting the better sounding plugin! I can confirm that it works after going through the new "install" step, and then entering the plugin via the menu. On mobile, I had a hard time finding the plugin list / install workflow, and resorted to manually opening https://www.windy.com/plugins (no more trailing slash).
One thing I noticed is that plugins now seem to have proper URLs, so it could be possible to bookmark and share a full windy view using a plugin. This is excellent for power users. Hopefully, this will also enable us to share a plugin view with others, with a sensible install workflow when the plugin is not installed in that particular browser yet. Currently, when opening a URL like https://www.windy.com/plugin/sdg/48.612/-122.425?clouds,48.612,-122.425,10, I am getting high CPU usage and not much progress. This is in Firefox 122 on Linux, and Firefox 124 on Android. A profile on desktop looks like this:
-
I am seeing similar hanging behavior in Chromium.
-
I'll take a look.
At least I can tell you that the forecast are pretty darn accurate
-
@gwicke This should hopefuly be fixed in 3.0.3 - I guess it needs to be stamped by the windy team before it's available.
-
@vicb, thanks a lot!
@Suty, what is your take on the plugin infrastructure questions? Are there plans to make plugins more discoverable / usable for mobile users? Will there be a way for users to follow a plugin-referencing link like https://www.windy.com/plugin/sdg/48.612/-122.425?clouds,48.612,-122.425,10, and get some UI / workflow that lets them install the plugin & see the linked view? This would make it a lot easier to help other users get started with analyzing conditions for a particular flying site, for example.
-
@gwicke At this moment, we make a huge step with plugins, however, at this moment, there is no specific plan to implement them into the mobile app. I can discuss it with colleagues on the meeting next week, however, I can't promise anything.
-
@Suty I've published the plugin: https://github.com/vrana/windy-plugin-pg-mapa/actions/runs/8658990874
How long does it take to appear in Windy?
-
@jakubvrana Thank you for an update. I will forward it to colleagues for approval.
-
@Suty Does every new version need to be approved?
-
@jakubvrana Yes, we want to approve it after checking that, if there are any security issues. We want to be safe about this.
-
@Suty Is this at least automatic when I publish a new version? Or do I need to always notify you?
-
@jakubvrana At this moment, it is better to let us know, but we will optimize it and if there is any change I will keep you posted.
