I have lost the option to turn off the smooth satellite animation. Has this moved or has it been taken away?

@jlawrance It has been taken away, since there was almost no usage on the end of users.

@Suty Thanks for the reply. I am disappointed that this option was taken away, as I view the satellite images daily. I dislike how the smooth satellite works merging the frames together and creating a generated animation. Is there any chance that the old option could be brought back? Or something more technical I could do to turn the smooth animation off? I much rather view the frame-by-frame animation.

I almost always turned off the "smooth" satellite animation. As an engineer, I want PURE DATA - not someone's cute algorithm to make people feel good. Please bring back disabling smoothed satellite animation!

@Suty Maybe you haven't noticed the absolute mess the satellite animation makes when there are two layers of cloud moving in different directions?

@Suty Wasn´t it used to solve other issues, like skipped zoomsteps?
I also use Bing for viewing satellite bc Firefox is extremely slow loading even 2 hours.

@Suty it's a petty, as the smooth option is not perfect. If you ever used the smooth option you should have noticed it create a annoyng ghost between transitions during day time images. I hope traditional option be back again or Windy create a good smooth transition.

@Suty What´s the difference / complication on the other side?
Some frames are very sharp, the next seem unnecessary blurry. Is this missing switch the reason?

@Suty Probably that smoothening needs a lot of calculations and resources, that my old computer could use better elsewhere. In the animations it could be what You call a bug.

Just saw, that the borders are better visible with Firefox than Bing (?)

@Suty The country-borders and coastlines, even the text had a different contrast. Right now both look same here (less contrast), just the text makes a difference, like a frame for edges more or less.

@Caefix Okay, I already see the change, how did you get the thicker ones in the new version? I will discuss it with colleagues.

@Suty It just happens, I can´t force it, but it´s stable through the timeline and global in the layers.

@Suty Serious question - If Windy is committed to mandatory use of satellite animation, can it possibly be changed so that the animation treats the cloud layer and not the map background? Even better if cloud layers could be separated. With the current version ground features (lakes, vegetation etc) are all being dragged and distorted by the cloud animation, with some very strange effects.

@casualuser Hi there, you don't have to use the satellite layer and you can any other layers. Or what exactly do you mean?

@Suty If I want to see the clouds, I have to use the satellite layer?

Maybe I'm interpreting satellite view wrongly and there isn't a cloud layer and a separate background earth layer, and it's just a single satellite photo. No wonder it gets so badly mangled by the animation process.

I have found a solution to bypass the smooth animation of the satellite layer though. On the desktop, if I step through the satellite time series with the left and right keyboard buttons it works like the old 'not smoothed' satellite view :-)

@Suty How does it work under the hood? Isn´t it just bypassing a procedure when switched off?
Is it streamed smooth/blurry or calculated on local PC? It´s always fine edged when paused.
