I do NOT like the new interface :-(

@Flachkurbler said in I do NOT like the new interface :-(:
It is quite impressive to see (once again) how a change in management can make all the difference in the success of a product.
While the founder of Windy was a pilot and kitesurfer in need of a great weather tool, it is very obvious that the new leadership is not using their product for any real purpose, like i.e. flight preparation. Otherwise they would have figured out on there own, that the new UI broke the tool.
But as they already demonstrated with the app changes: they will not listen to the users.
So it is now time for me to move on.It seems we all talk in the air. They will NOT listen.
I was using Windy every day for 0.5-2 hours and would get premium the moment they would do a simple thing to be able to get the labels off(but they ignored all my messages about that), but now I have to leave it.

I will take the opportunity now to explain why the UI is garbage instead of just complaining:
-
Everything has been blown up / enlarged. I am on desktop. Please stop wasting screen space. Less really isn't more here.
-
The previous UI was intuitive. This current one is messy. UI is meant to streamline the user experience. This new UI does the exact opposite. The previous UI, I could find whatever I needed with ease. This current one, I can't even find the usual things I select from intuition.
-
The new icons displaying each type of map make the whole thing disjointed. I find myself easily overwhelmed when looking at the selection screen.
-
The new sidebar for the menu takes up way too much space now.
-
-
I don't like it either. This is a step backwards. Firstly, making any changes should have a defined purpose rather than change for change sake. I'm wondering what the purpose was other than to force user to flounder around looking for simple things such as "Wind Gusts" and taking up more real-estate. There is much less data relatively apparent and its not intuitive. So far after some 10min I can not find wind gusts and can find how to animate it or play through the current weather forecast.
-
Sure. Right now, with nothing pinned I have this:
I then pin, in this exact order: new snow, temperature, and wind gusts, and I get this:
Now, I add fire danger:
Now I add PM2.5
This is what I mean by not robust. There is no way to take favorites and sort them in a logical way, nor is there any way to pick favorites in any order.
-
This is what I am looking at now on my laptop for the same pinned icons before the UI change.....
So now I have to commit to memory which combination/pattern of colors each icon represents as a forecast field.
At least do us the courtesy of making the icons more distinguishable or recognisable to the weather field it is representing.
It is a very pretty but meaningless array of icons.
I reckon this is my final rant ..... you have served me well in the past Windy, onto new pastures.
-
The layer symbols on the "map" screen need to be named and grouped similar to v41. Maybe just allow us to choose the individual locations of the symbols/spheres. I don't mind the sidebar change.
-
@WeatherMonk The new interface is horrible, is impossible to customize the quick menu
-
See you Windy. It was great while it lasted and then you folks screwed it up. One more for the dustbin.
-
@Suty The design should respect the fact that your entire user base knows the system already. If they find it less intuitive -- then it is less intuitive. There's 10 zillion layers -- who WANTS to remember what 10 zillion icons look like? You NEED labels. (and hovering over 10 labels to find the popup is not the answer.)
-
@stitch Me too. It's a mess.
-
@Suty Quite frankly, it isn't about "liking" the new design. It's about functionality.
When I pin cloud layers, why do they not go in order of "low, medium, high"? Why are the cloud layers not on the list next to "clouds".
This new design lacks functionality of the old version. It no longer meets my needs or my workflow so I'll be looking for alternatives to use instead.

@idefix37 yes, I am talking about the new browser version update.
No, there is no "My favourites"
Firefox browser v. 124.0.2
-
@Koss5
When the small heart is ON your favorites are displayed on the map. They don’t ?
To see and manage your list of Favorites, click on your profile picture. -
@idefix37 The small heart change the info shown on the map, but doesn't give me access to the forecast for favourites.
-
@Koss5 Click the profile icon in the top right corner.
-
@Koss5
When your favorites are shown on the map, click on them to see the forecast at the favorite location. -
@Teddy010101 Thanks, that is the shorter path than doing it thought big red button called "Menu". However your suggestion doesn't help if I am not logged in.
-
@idefix37 It's not easy to punch that smallish hearts on the map, at least with FullHD computer monitor.
-
@Flachkurbler Hi, the management or the leading team hasn't changed and the new update was made by still the same team of people, Windy founder included.
We already have collected all feedbacks and consider potential changes to the new UI.

Perhaps if there was a useable 'legend', it might help to understand what folks are looking at, but there isn't that basic tool, at least not that I could find. I have one map that I was able to put together and saved. It is the only Windy I now use.
