How to run Windy plugin on mobile device
-
Is there a way to install Windy plugin on mobile device, either in Windy App or in mobile browser? In the previous version I could run plugins from a link opened in mobile browser but this option seems not to be available anymore in the new Windy version.

@spino1973
For me it is still possible. Here on iPad with the browser version -
@idefix37 Mobile browser (run on Samsung) does not show this option.
-
@spino1973 Same here on (OnePlus) Android: not available in app nor in any browser.
-
The screenshot you show is that of the mobile app, not that of the browser version. Probably your device switches directly to the mobile app.
-
@idefix37 No, it is a browser version. The same layout shows even if the browser is switched to desktop view. The printscreen above is in Firefox but it works the same in Chrome.

@spino1973
I mean your screenshot is not the layout that you get on desktop / laptop with any browser. -
@idefix37 Correct. On desktop I see different layout (same as posted by you in post #2 above).
Mobile browser on my Samsung phone shows simplified layout (see my post #3 above). -
@spino1973
My screenshot was from iPad when using the browser version. With a phone it seems there is no way to get this layout even when logging in with the browser.
Which plugin would you like to use on your mobile? -
@idefix37 I was adviced to run the plugins on mobile via the link https://www.windy.com/plugins. This allows to launch most of the plugins that have already been updated to new Windy version. I particularly aim at Paragliding Mapa but this one is probably not finished yet for mobile devices as it gives error when I try to install it (on desktop it works fine).
-
Finally your link works fine on iPhone. The plug-in you are looking for is probably not yet updated for mobile devices.
-
For now plugins only work in the browser on mobile - you have to visit windy.com/plugins
Note that clicking on a link will open the windy app (when installed) and plugins won't show up there. You have to open a web browser (i.e. Chrome) on your mobile and type the address - or add a favorite.
I discussed that with Ivo and he told me that the plugin support will be improved for the web site and also added to the native apps when there are more plugins available. I guess the team is hard at work to convert more plugins to the new API but we will have support in the mobile apps at some point.
That's cool 🎉

Hey folks!
I wanted to bring back the attention to this thread: I would love to follow the Vendee Globe in the Android Windy App. The Vendee Globe Plugin works marvelously on my desktop but isn't available on the android app nor Chrome (desktop mode in Chrome doesn't change that).Can you tell if/when this will change?

@FlorianRedeker At this moment, there is no plan to implement external plugins to our mobile version.

The best option at this stage is to place a bookmark for
windy.com/plugins
on the home screen.
