Webcams API Free Tier Usage in an App
-
Hi, I work for the US Forest Service and develop a mobile application called the Fire Weather Alert System (open source and distributed free of charge). We'd like to use your free tier webcams API to display cameras in our app. I wanted to check that this was a valid use of the free tier. We would use a single API key to display cameras based on the user's zoom in the mapping interface of our app. When the user clicks on a camera we will include a link to windy.com/webcams to ensure your API is credited in our app. Is this a valid use of the free tier?

@nwagenbrenner Hi there, your use case is completely okay for us if you mentioned us as a provider of these images. Also I need to inform you that free version of our webcam API has only low resolution images.

Using a Webcams API on a free tier lets you integrate live camera feeds into your app without cost. Popular options like Windy’s webcams.travel offer limited daily requests, perfect for travel, weather, or local event apps. Free tiers usually include basic access and may restrict resolution or commercial use. To stay within limits, cache responses and filter by location. It’s a smart way to add real-time visual data to your app.
