@Suty said in Help Us Expand Global Lightning Detection with Nowcast:
Dear Windy.com users,
We're excited to support our partner nowcast (https://www.nowcast.de/en/) in expanding the coverage of their global lightning network, that provides real-time data to Windy. So if you are interested in helping Windy and you want to see real time lightnings in your region, then this opportunity is for you. Nowcast is seeking volunteers in specific regions to host sensors, which are crucial for improving lightning detection and safety measures.
Here are the regions where they need your help
- Northern India or Nepal
- Mexico, Costa Rica, or Panama
- Western Pacific, including the Mariana Islands, Guam, and Palau
- Japan
Site Requirements:
- Location should be free from significant electrical noise (e.g., distant from transformer stations, large motors, or high-voltage power lines).
- The site should provide a small area (less than 4 sqm) for the antenna.
- An elevated, restricted area with a clear, unobstructed horizon at a 25° elevation angle.
- Ideally, access to power and internet (less than 20W power usage and below 50kbit/s for data).
Benefits to Hosts:
As a host, you will not be required to install, maintain, or repair the equipment. All installation and maintenance costs will be covered by nowcast. In return, you'll receive either non-commercial access to nowcast's web application, allowing you to monitor thunderstorm activity and receive customizable alerts about lightning activity around your location, or a financial compensation.
Also as mentioned above, by becoming a host, you will also support the integration of enhanced lightning coverage for these regions in the Windy.com, benefiting users worldwide.
We appreciate your involvement and support in this significant project to enhance global safety and weather awareness. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please get in touch with us.
Thank you for your support!
