Isolines display turned off for Weather Radar
-
Hi - I have the Isoline display selected in the app, but if I select the weather radar layer it gets turned off & I have to reselect it - is it possible to keep the Isoline display enabled?
Toys had been reported before but not actioned ... eg in 2020 community.windy.com/topic/13684/keep-pressure-isolines-when-showing-satellite-or-other-isolines?_=1716624033459

@geoffers Hi, this behavior to turn off isolines in the radar layer is intentional, however, I will discuss this behavior with colleagues and keep you posted.

@geoffers Unfortunately, we decided to keep this setup, since isolines with forecast data have nothing in common with radar data. They have completely different source of data and it can be confusin when radar displays the storm completely somewhere else than isolines.

@Suty Are you saying that when users manually choose to add the isolines to this layer, the layers are misaligned in time?
I'm surprised both don't have accurate timestamps and can't imagine that being on the data providers end.
If so, then some indicator there is misalignment is probably important.
Either way, you offer the user the ability to turn it on. Honouring that, or communicating why not, seems like the minimum you can do to respect your users choice.
If I was designing this, given what I think I know, I'd persist the setting and when the layer is shown and it's currently reset, display some unobtrusive message with a control to allow the user to choose if the toggle should be persistent and then storing that setting. I imagine based on work I've done, there is either a lot of tech debt, or a lot of opinions that this is foolish, or it's just too low a priority so I don't envy your position.
Looking through the forum, this is a repeat issue and consumes peoples time. Is it possible to at least display a message that it won't be persisted with some rational? You could do this: when the toggle is set since the user is taking the action of setting the configuration; when the user navigates away from the layer since it won't be there when they come back (but I think this won't help with frustrations with default layers dropping the setting and may app toggles too); or when the layer is loaded if you can keep the setting up until that point. Any one of these options should help and I would guess one is less coding than the ideal solution from the vocal users but at least it keeps them in the loop a little bit
