Smoother animations

The animation is rather stepwise when playing forecasts on the map, about one frame per second (one hour leaps) - would it be possible to make it smooth or at least smoother? I see this has been asked several times before, but I can't find a firm conclusion, except one statement a few years back that it will be considered.
I have no clue whether it is possible or technically difficult - can you comment on whether these suggestions have been rejected or if there is a plan to implement it?

@steinardo Hello again, I discussed this with colleagues and there is a plan to offer this. However, I cannot promise any time period of providing this feature.
