GPS locations wildly wrong on iOS
-
@mfk1955 Yeah I don't recall this happening in the past either.
-
@covecs sxeems no one from the app developer is reading this or they don't care. Is there any other channel to contact them and urge them to soplve the issue ?
-
@mfk1955 I think they can’t believe they broke the GPS on startup since they asked me if I had GPS allowed for the app. 😂
-
@covecs I really don't understand how they can mess up with such a basic feature as GPS location display. Hundreds of apps are handling that w/o problems
-
@mfk1955 yeah, agreed. The worst part is it doesn’t indicate it’s not %100 sure of the location like when google maps draws a big blue halo around the area it thinks you’re in and omits the blue dot. Instead it just shows a dot in the wrong place.
-
@Suty any thoughts here? It’s continuing to happen and it’s not always obvious it’s giving the wrong forecast for my location. I basically have to go get the gps location from google maps and paste it in to ensure it’s not randomly giving me some location.
-
@covecs Unfortunately, we are not able to replicate the issue and it is difficult to get more info about the issue in this situation. Do you have anything in the error console in the app?
-
@Suty there’s no errors in the console, and it continues to report the wrong location. What it looks like it happening is it’s falling back to alternate ways to determine location and then caches the wrong location. Welp, thanks for checking, I’ll look for a different weather app since the wrong forecasts are a deal breaker. Thx!

Appears to be fixed now, as of 42.5.2. It now shows a green bar at the top saying it’s getting the location if it doesn’t have it already instead of permission denied or the wrong location.
-
Just started using Windy yesterday, and paid for premium because I like the hourly forecasts and the widgets.
But now I realized that I’m also getting consistently wrong locations with iOS, too. Version 42.5.5 according to the sidebar in-app, but version 42.050589 according to the App Store version history.
Initially, it finds my correct location straight away, when I load the app, and loads the map overview. But then, when I long press the home icon to load the local forecast, it always switches to some other location several hundred miles away and loads the forecast for that (also moving the map) instead.
This doesn’t happen on the same iOS device on the web version in Safari. In that case it works correctly.
This makes the app pretty unusable for location-based forecasts.
Error console in the app shows nothing.
Help! Thanks.

@petelewis same here. I am trying to click on my saved location and then it switches to way far somewhere else. See screen record
-
@arduous yes, that’s exactly the issue. Thanks for doing the screen record.
-
@Suty , can you pls have a look into it?
(my screen record is only available a week or so, but if i need to provide a new link, let me know!) -
@arduous Could you please provide a new link? I will check the situation for you. Do you use any VPN or similar tool?
-
@Suty thanks. Just replying from my side. Not using any VPN. It works fine in the browser on the same device, just not in the app.

@petelewis Hi, we are working on certain improvements, so it hopefully be fixed soon.
