The ECMWF CAPE and thunderstorm layers are very different - e.g. massively high CAPE over parts of the UK but not much in the rain/thunder or thunderstorms layers. Does anyone know why these are so different? What goes into the the thunderstorm layer?

      Thanks

        @ekdyer
CAPE is a measure of instability.
However, instablility on it's own is not enough to ensure thunderstorms.
There needs to be a lifting factor due to orography or frontal activity.
Check for other hints such as high humidity and a forecast of showers in the area.

Yes Rain accumulation is in inches, even if you read 3ft on right hand of the scale.

I supose partly cloudy is up to 50% (1~4/8).
For more details you can use the picker.

Firstly, I must let you know that I'm not Windy's personnel.
So, I can't answer all of your questions.
I don't know Windy's plans for the future.

About sky condition, NOAA uses the following definitions :
                                            https://www.weather.gov/media/pah/ServiceGuide/A-forecast.pdf

Turkish State Meteo. Service uses the following symbols:
(cloud coverage in octas as I interpret them)
                                            793b6540-a613-43a5-8589-126518c305c9-εικόνα.png

                                            My question to you:
What is the usefulness if Windy adds a "mostly sunny" icon?
                                            "Partly cloudy" is not enough?
Do you think that the average reader
can see any difference between the following icons?

                                            2d4b60ff-d0cc-41a0-92bd-d6640b334226-εικόνα.png
