Incorrect Home Location on Widget
-
@rwgrosser I would try to recommend reinstalling the whole app, since we are not able to replicate the issue and all of our devices work okay in this case.
-
I've had this same issue for a while. My startup location in Windy is a city, as opposed to GPS or IP, for a variety of reasons. I don't know if they are using GPS or IP, but the widgets, both the Premium Forecast and Hour Forecast, use the wrong city. I would prefer if the widgets would use my Windy settings. That would be intuitive.
iOS 17.5.1, Windy 42.1.6
-
Uninstalling and reinstalling the application does not resolve the issue.
-
@Trevor-Karjanis Hi, I know that this localization is bad, but you can also set the custom location in all kinds of widgets.
-
@Suty Are you referring to Windy's widgets? Maybe I am misunderstanding how to do that. When I customize my lock screen and click a Windy widget, it doesn't open a settings panel. It just asks to add widgets.
If I click certain other widgets, like the clock, it displays a settings panel.
I have not figured out how to configure settings for specific Windy widgets.
-
@Trevor-Karjanis Hi, when you tap on our widgets, you already have added, in your first screenshot, you should get the widget settings.
-
@Trevor-Karjanis Right, uninstalling and reinstalling the app did nothing. Widget still displays a location that's a few miles away from where I live. Frustrating.

Every other weather app I have had on my device, the widget location is accurate. Why is this such a problem with Windy? When one pays for an app, one would expect it to just work.
-
Cliffwood is about 4.5 miles away from my home address. How can this be?
-
@Suty The catch is that it actually takes two taps. Here are the steps.
- Go to lock screen.
- Press and hold.
- Tap Customize.
- Tap Lock Screen.
- Tap a Windy widget. This opens the Add Widgets bottom panel.
- Tap the widget again. This opens the widget's settings panel.
From the settings panel, a custom location and forecast model can be set. Thank you!
-
@Trevor-Karjanis that's the lock screen, though. I'm talking about the home screen widget. It should accurately follow me wherever I go.
-
@Suty So that's the end of it? Y'all can't reproduce the issue so you make a lame suggestion then just ignore the topic? What am I paying for if I can't get resolution for what should be a simple issue?
-
@rwgrosser Hi, I don't want to ignore this issue and I am not, but we can't reproduce this issue. When you use Home button in the app, what is in the search field then, is that location correct?
-
@Suty No it is not. It is showing what is in my screenshot above....Cliffwood, which is about 4.5 miles from where I actually live.

@rwgrosser Okay, so the name is for location few miles away from you, but the location and forecast is correct and the map point shows your location, am I right?
-
@Suty When I tap on Find my location, that is very accurate. I wish the app would use that for my home location, but for some reason it wants to put me in Cliffwood when I'm at home. It may not sound like a big deal, but it's actually pretty annoying. And of course, since it's only a few miles away, the forecast should be pretty accurate.
-
@rwgrosser It looks like that only the name for the location is wrong, which should be fixed with new update of map and labels. It should be out at the end of this year hopefully.
-
@Suty Six months to fix a bug? Yikes.
-
@rwgrosser It looks like the bug is only on your end and for your location, that can be the problem with your specific location. As you said, the app provides correct location, so we talk only about the wrong name for your location. I am sorry, but we don't have any specific way how to handle this.
