CLEAR, STEP BY STEP instructions NEEDED - Please

The more complex this gets – THE MORE AWESOME BUT it is becoming MORE difficult TO PERSONALIZE FOR TWO REASONS:
1 - CLEAR, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ARE LACKING - at least - I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY!
2 - SETTINGS DO NOT SEEM TO 'stick'. Sometimes they are there, other times - not. NO CLUE WHY!Example: Am trying to set Favorites - cannot figure out how to it! OR perhaps the function is not working? No way for me to tell. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING.
(I know where the little FAV 'x' is but cannot drag/drop to Fav Location - IF THAT IS THE LOGICAL WAY TO DO IT) (Using most recent Chrome, have high speed reliable connection & 4K monitors - so no issues there)TO REITERATE:
*Are there CLEAR, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS on how to SET Favorites & other PERSONALIZATIONS - IF SO - WHERE ARE THEY?
FIX SUGGESTION:

BOTH VERSIONS NEED CLEAR, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS THAT EVERYONE KNOWS how to do everything. WE DON'T.
