Large Discrepancy between Windy data and actual, other predictive apps
-
Hi- why is there such a large discrepancy between Windy's stated current temp and the real temp? And, why is Windy's predictive model and many other models/apps (NOAA, WeatherBug, AccuWeather, Apple Weather) in such disagreement?
For example, Windy says it is 52deg (F) right now, but it is actually 79deg!
Also, Windy is predicting highs around 78deg for Saturday, where NOAA and other models are predicting highs in the 90s.
Location is Mazama WA 98833 US

Hello, the reason for the discrepancy between the actual temperature at your location and the forecast is due to the medium resolution (9 km) of the default weather model used by Windy. Your location is in a narrow valley surrounded by high mountains. With such a resolution, it therefore cannot provide a correct temperature forecast.
Using the Observation vs forecast feature you clearly see that the Meteoblue model gives the best temperature prediction.
This Swiss model is particularly useful in mountain because it is a non-gridded model.
It is only available in point forecast not in a temperature map. -
@idefix37 Thanks for pointing this out! I read your post and older ones about this feature. However, I am (dumb) having difficulty getting the feature to work (iPhone 15 Windy app).
Following Windy's directions:
1.Open Windy to the desired location,2.Select Reported Wind at bottom right to display all Weather Stations
3.Select the Weather Station, eg: I chose Mazama
At this point, I do not see a way to select a weather model such as MBLUE. I can select "Display As: Observation v Forecast" (bottom center), However, I am then taken to a "comparative models" graphic.
What am I doing wrong? How can I streamline this process to get straight to MBLUE's Obs ve Forecast?
Thanks!

@KevinPiasecki
Hi,
Observation vs feature allows to compare the reported data at a weather station and the forecast of different weather models at the same location.
In your case Meteoblue is the best because it shows the smallest median error for temperature
For temperature forecasts you just have to use Meteoblue in the point forecast table, because it is the best model at your location.To get Meteoblue forecast, in the point forecast table just click on Meteoblue.

@KevinPiasecki
More specifically on a phone screen you need to click on the small arrow next to ECMWF to get thisAnd then click on MBLUE
