Weather radar novice here in the usa, does the windy.com app produce a radar equivalent to what radarscope can show you? I tried radarscope and wasn't a fan of their premiums plus the windy.com ui is stunning.

Radarscope and omega are touted as the go-to apps for spotting tornadoes, from my understanding they do this by having a sort of live feed to the radar stations, right? And you're only able to go so far in the frames they offer, so are they hooked up straight to NOAA? What does this mean when we compare the radar from windy? I thought it all came down to the model being used in which case hrrr sounds like the ticket for tornadoes.

Radarscope provides much more detailed radar data than Windy does. For example, Windy does not provide the velocity data, whereas Radarscope does...and this is very useful when investigating possible tornadic activity. Both have a "live feed" to various radar stations.
Windy is quite fantastic when investigating forecast guidance model outputs, but when I want to watch storms via radar I use Radarscope.

        Keep in mind...
Radar is real-time ACTUAL data. HRRR is a guidance model that can help predict where severe weather may occur (along with other guidance models). But if you are interested in real-time actual data, Radarscope allows you to investigate multiple tilts and outputs of both single and dual polarization radars.

@Wheats what's keeping windy.com from adopting an equivalent feature? Is it pricey to have those feeds into doppler?
