      IMPORTANT: For Eastern Mediterranean last 2 years, the true average wind has ALWAYS been WINDY APPS: GUSTS not WIND. I am glad that I am on a ship and not sailing around here on a small yacht using WINDY. You MUST address this. WIND is app 90% of time. Gusts is app 10%. But according WINDY is the reverse. Come on Guys…. This error could cost lives.

      Yours truly,
      Sean

        @captainwhalley Hi, did you compare more models offered for this layer, or did you check only ECMWF?

          @Suty Please do not obfuscate. Most users just look at WIND including my Ships other Captain. But the true wind is nearly ALWAYS much higher and consistent with WINDY APPS GUSTS which few look at because they correctly albeit to their peril, assume this will only be for a very short time. // I think it may boil down to your company not consulting professional Mariners (like me) and you’ve just been lucky and got away with potentially disastrous misleading wind and therefore wave, forecasting. It’s ALWAYS 15-25 % more than your WIND prediction. Hence why I only look at GUSTS. fyi I’ve often been in near gale force conditions where your app is giving Force 4-5. That’s dangerous if you’re in a small boat. Sean

            @Suty
            Greetings, I completely agree with @captainwhalley .
            I have been using Windy for a quite long time and at the moment Windy is so inaccurate I am considering to cancel my subscription. I work on the ship and I have been using this app in New Zealand, Australia, South China Sea, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Japan and now in Aegean Sea, winds are never correct and I am using gusts applying +40% or 60% to be on the safe side. Today in Monemvasia, forecast on Windy 25-26 gusts later changed to 30 gusts, in reality it was 58 knots. Windfinder on the other side shows more or less correct. In two days I will be in Agios Nikolaos, Windy forecast at 07 AM is light winds up to 10 kts gusts. Windfinder shows gusts up to 23 kts. My personal gut feeling is that Windfinder will be correct. You have to wake up and do something before you send someone in trouble.

              @kkorona 👍will check out Windfinder. Perhaps Windy’s forecasters are Surfers vs Sailors. Important note: ALWAYS x 2 their APPS Wave height. Sean

                @captainwhalley @kkorona Do you have any other source, that uses same data as Windy (for instance ECMWF model)? So we can check and compare data with relevant ones? It is possible that something can be wrong on our end, but we are not able to compare it without the source.

                  @captainwhalley

                  You imagine there are forecasters employed by Windy or by any weather apps who predict and draw the wind fields hour by hour, and other weather parameters, all around the world ?
                  Windy and other weather apps visualise WEATHER MODELS which are computed by the main weather centers like the ECMWF, NOAA, DWD…. So if the forecast is wrong this is due to these weather models or Windy don’t use them correctly. And it is the same models that are used for the sea weather forecasts by marine weather offices for their marine bulletins.

                    @idefix37 thank you for your reply, I do understand that they are using different models. I am comparing all of them as well on Windy app, Windfinder obviously uses something different or Windy is not applying it correctly in the app.

                      @kkorona

                      WindFinder say they are using GFS model for global model they call “Forecast” with a 13km resolution, which wrong ! GFS is computed at 13km resolution, yes, but then it is disseminated with a 22km resolution. I asked them to clarify this wrong statement but finally never got a reply.
                      Then they provide a “Superforcast” on limited areas. For instance on this domain over Europe

                      ACE21C7A-769E-4469-AC84-F3881EFACF01.jpeg

                      But they don’t say which model they use. They claim a 7km resolution, so it could be ICON-EU, but the domain is different from the one shown by DWD.
                      Do you use this “Superforecast” ?

                        @idefix37 yes, I am using it, and so far it has been more accurate than Windy

                          Did you try different models in Windy, ICON-EU for instance?

                            @Suty I can only tell you what I have observed. All WINDY’s obfuscation re models etc is just a distraction from the fact they have got to rename GUSTS - WIND and remove WIND because there is no name for something below average!!!
