I'm motoring on Lake Champlain today (Saturday August 10 around 10am) and Windy indicates a SW wind at 8 knots. It is definitely a NE wind at least 12 to 15 knots.

What Windy indicated was a forecast, not an observation.
Have you tried all weather models available in lake Champlain area ? I tried all of them and they were all predicting SW to S wind.
To get real reported wind speed and direction you should check Reported wind which is provided by weather stations. Some were displaying NE wind.

It means that weather models including the high resolution one, HRRR, were not able able to predict it. And you can note large discrepancies between weather stations observations.
