Cloud cover shading in radiosondes
-
I have seen some radiosondes in which the shading in the left where the pressure levels are, seems badly represented.
I understand this shading represents cloud cover
Here is one example

Nobody from Windy reading this ?
Another example (there are many every day ... )

@EduardoSG
These soundings are sounding measurement from a sounding station. So the data is provided by the station. Same for the cloudiness shown on left side ? -
As far as I know, the shading is derived from the relative humidity.
Over 85% BKN
Between 65% and 85% FEW to SCT
Under 65% no clouds
So the shadings in your examples seem to be buggy as the soundings are quite dry. -
@idefix37 OK, I thought the shading was a Windy feature as I cannot see it in other sources of radiosondes
-
@wetterheidi Exactly!! That is why it is obviously wrong

@EduardoSG
Sorry my post is probably not clear I must admit. I put a question mark at the end of it. So I don’t know precisely the source of this cloudiness.
I just see that the Sounding measurement from sounding stations shows it but not the Sounding forecast which is computed by Windy from the weather model data.
