ICON waves model needs fixing
-
Further to reported bugs from users, I did a model comparison where the remnants of tropical cyclone Ernesto are located near Newfoundland.
All weather models show rough seas up to 10m high except ICON !With customised color scale for Waves
No doubt there is something wrong because ICON shows about the same wind as the other models.
With customised color scale for Wind
All screenshots are from the mobile app. At same time the browser version shows no timeline or even more a blank screen when ICON is selected for waves.

In comparing weather models for the remnants of tropical cyclone Ernesto near Newfoundland, all models indicate rough seas with wave heights up to 10 meters, except ICON. This discrepancy might be due to ICON’s resolution or wave model configuration.

@jammyson
The ICON wave model has a 13km resolution, same as the one of the ECMWF wave model.
GFS wave model is 22km.
So the resolution is not an valid explanation.
And for you there is nothing wrong when a wave model predicts 2m waves when the others say 10m with more than 50kt wind ? -
Hi @idefix37, ICON wave model is not working since end of May and it still hasn't been brought back.
The displayed data are very old:

@Filip_K
You are right, I had not checked this.
In this case how can Windy leave a model without updating for so long? -
@idefix37
You're right, we should probably get rid of it until it starts working again. This is just confusing.
