Solved AROME 1.3 km will be back
-
Hello,
looks like the arome forecast isnt available anymore in northern ireland. This is/was quite a good one for here, would be nice to have it back. Hopefully just a bug/issue.
Cheers,
Hannes

@hannesp Hi, since there was a huge interest here on community to use AROME 2.5km instead of 1.3km, we decided to change it and unfortunately this new model has smaller borders.
-
@Suty Thanks for the quick response, unfortunately not a great outcome. There is huge interest from the Irish / Northern Irish community to get this back :)
It worked really well for local effects and got us quite a few extra sessions
-
@Suty found great use for this in NI
-
In the proposed forecast models I no longer see Arome
-
@AppGiu
This is probably because the 1.3km version is now replaced by the 2.5km version. This version has a restricted domain.

In which area were you using AROME ?

I hope that you will reintegrate the 1.3 km resolution! :
On the one hand, because I live in Bolzano (South Tyrol/Italy) and a small grid is important in the alpine lakes, as well as on Lake Garda (and the models are already becoming less accurate at their edges anyway), on the other hand, my most important wave spots are on the northern Adriatic:
There, the 2.5km doesn't cut it anymore, plus AROME 1.3km had a 90% reliable forecast in the last couple of updates, which I wouldn't want to miss! -
Similarly here on the West Coast of Ireland - the Arome model was invaluable, for both accuracy and resolution. Will be a major loss if no longer available.
-
I've been using Windy for quite a while now and Arome was always the go to short term model for Ireland. It is just the most accurate while other models are all over the place sometimes.
A big loss in my opinion. Any chance to have it back?
-
@lecter Fully agree!! Looks like its already back, at least I can see it again with the wider boundaries
-
@hannesp
It is not back, but AROME 1.3km is still available in the mobile app.
-
The Ireland is covered by very detailed UKV model. Have you try it?
-
@idefix37 Great, is it going to stay like this?
-
@TZ Yes, we look at all of them and just pick the best one :)
Arome works really well here for short term local effects, e.g. checking it just before going usually tells you exactly what’s going to happen. It’s really good as well with sea breeze and rain predictions
-
@hannesp We will probably keep only the Arome 2.5km.
-
@TZ Yes, I have tried the UKV model. In fact, I often compare all models available for the area and my experience is that AROME provides the most reliable forecast. I have often found AROME being able to predict even local showers which wouldn't be a case with other models. UKV is detailed (high resolution) indeed but it is rarely as accurate especially for rain. As far as I know The Irish Meteorological Service also uses AROME for their forecasts.
-
Yes, same here! Please reintegrate the 1.3km resolution!
It is the reason why i'm paying for Windy. The area where I use the forecast for is on the 1.3km map but NOT on the 2.5km map.
See here the difference between the 1.3km and 2.5km map:

@idefix37 Please make 1.3 available again!

-
Can you confirm if the model will be reinstated? It is important in view of the subscription....
-
@TZ 🙁 Sorry to read this. In NW Spain, this model really was very reliable, especially in the Galician Rias. If there is any possibility for you to value it again, I think it is of great interest in this area for sailing and other nautical sports.
