Rain precipitation not predicted correctly
-
Hi,
I'm in Ljubljana Slovenia at the moment, and when I look in Windy I see that all forecast models predict it's going to rain around 23:00-00:00 CET.
I'm on campsite right now and can tell from experience that it's raining pretty severely from 18:00 CET. The weather radar and the new Radar + layer are displaying the rain correctly. The Rain, thunder layer not.
But what I find most remarkable that none of the forecast models (ECMWF and Meteoblue specially) predict any rain. I noticed it also earlier this week.
Is there someone here who can share some insights on this behavior?
I'm using the Windy app by the way on Android

@Dennis-Vrolijk Hi there, may I ask for how long the rain lasted?

Hi,
You compare your observation and the prediction of weather models. It seems there were thunderstorms in the area, that is very to forecast precisely. You said you observed heavy rain at 18:00 yesterday, but a wmo weather station in Ljubljana reported only rain this morning while weather models predicted rain during the night.Thunderstorms are often very localized

The Rain lasted from 18:00 till around 21:00 and then from 23:00 it rained the whole night very heavily

I can assure you that it were not just thunderstorms. From 23:00 it rained the whole night, very heavily. It is in fact still raining right now. But the weather models seem to have predicted that more accurately. According to ECMWF the rain should stop around 13:00
The wmo weather station in Ljubljana reported no rain. All weather stations around Ljubljana reported a lot of rain during the night. I maybe would doubt if the reports of that weather station are correct? I'm on campsite close to (2km) the city of Ljubljana by the way

I took this weather station as a reference by chance because it is in the city of Ljubljana. It is surprising that a station certified by the WMO can be inaccurate for reporting rain.
