I was so excited to just discover there’s a tide stream option. However, sadly when checking to see how accurate it is in a part of world I know really well ( the west of Scotland) I found it to be so wrong as to be useless

For example in the Correvreckan whirlpool tides can run at 6 or more knots but in the app never shows as more than 0.1 . The tide can be so strong it can easily sink boats and the admiralty describe it as ‘unnavigable’

there are lots of other examples where it massively under predicts such as between Skye and the mainland ( the sound of Sleat) or the race around mull of kintyre.

Not sure where this data comes from but if it can be improved it could be really useful but in the meantime, I’ll have to rely on charts.

I have never sailed through the Correvreckan but I do recall the Kyle Rhea on a sailing cruise around Skye and up to the Outer Hebrides.
For these straits use the Admiralty charts. A worldwide model with low resolution can’t replace them for sailing specially in tricky passages. This concerns Tides and Tidal currents.

@idefix37 makes sense and of course I use paper and electronic charts. However, it would be so lovely if it did work at a higher resolution. I’m not aware of any other online tidal stream atlas
