Windy Location Services
-
Dear Windy Leadership Team, I’m wondering if you have any information on the Windy team working on the location accuracy of the app. This past spring I sailed 2500NM from San Diego, CA to San Blas, Nayarit Mx using Starlink and Windy and I have always loved Windy’s interface, models, and the app in general. However, Windy’s location services was very annoying and inconsistent which caused me to need to delete and re download the app dozens of time to get the app to find my proper location, and even this didn’t work consistently. I will be embarking on the Global Solo Challenge 2027/28 and would really like to count on Windy while at sea. I’d like to be able to work with the team in the interim to get these issues resolved as an advanced user and former software entrepreneur in the medical space. I believe Windy is better than any other tool for visualization of weather, currents, tides, etc., but the location services issue really needs to be resolved. Any info or updates you can provide will be greatly appreciated and I am available at any time to provide any constructive feed back an ideas for improvement if the leadership of Windy see fit. Thanks, Robert s/v La Gloria

To avoid asking the same questions and getting the same answers, I recall all your previous posts about the same subject

@idefix37 I’m asking for an update. I see many are still having issues with location services. I’m not sure why this is such a problem to ask for it to be fixed and to get it fixed. It’s a relatively easy thing to fix and it is a safety issue. Do you have any news or insight on the issue?

@robertwcass
It seems your problem is linked to your Internet connection via StarLink when you are offline and to the use of Bluetooth Garmin GLO receiver used to feed your position into your iOS devices. Am I right?
All users who have a location issue are not in a similar case. -
@idefix37 no that is not correct, it has nothing to do with the GarminGlo. All other apps I use work fine with StarLink and GarminGlo. Only Windy has problems. Why do so many users have this issue and why is this not being fixed, or at least being worked on. It would be nice if Windy would at least acknowledge that there is a problem with the app and start working to fix it. I also use PredictWind and it does not have this issue, nor do any other of the apps I use. Please let’s work together to get this fixed. I will be participating in the Global Solo Challenge 2027/28 and would really like to use Windy during the race as a weather routing/information tool but it needs to be able find my location accurately whenever I access the app whether it be via GarminGlo or some other external GPS provider to my tablets and devices. As I have said in the past, I love the Windy app and offer my help to get this right but so far, I regret to say, the response from Windy has been dismissive and absolutely unhelpful. I’m hoping someone on with a combination of good customer service skills and technical ability will address this issue ASAP.
Thanks
