wind animation gone?

When zoomed in (for me northeast US) I used to have wind animations. Now I only see that when on way zoomed out in 3d mode. I miss the ability to see wind directions visually shown on a small scale. Is that some setting I'm missing or have things changed?

Well, after not seeing it for a week or two...the animation is back. It is super faint compared to the past. Can barely see it over land, it's a bit more pronounced over water. Tried to attach a screen shot but get a 'file too big' error.
