Windy App map view issues with touch
-
I've been using Windy without significant issues for many years. But recently the map view behaves differently on the Android Windy App 43.0.5 and I'm experiencing issues with the map viewer.
- When I use one finger to slide the map the cursor icon used to stay active. Now it disappears after some time which is annoying when you try and aim for a certain place. It's always been odd to my that the cross hair cursor isn't centered on the screen, perhaps this could be an option in the settings, too?
- When I use pinch to zoom the map icons for favorite places flicker when the map is zooming.
- When using the time slider by dragging it with touch inputs the slider changes in height. When I move the slider too slowly during fine adjustments it keeps jumping between large and small. Just keep the slider at one height and don't resize it all the time, especially if I haven't let go of the touch input yet. Personally I wouldn't mind if the slider was large at all times and the bottom panel also was kept at the large size. The automatic layout resizes cause accidental inputs which is annoying and reduces usability.
- When using the slider I sometimes randomly seem to select a new place on the map and the map view jumps south to that place and I have to manually slide the map back north. It's very annoying and has become borderline impossible to just pan the map and use the time slider in quick successsion without randomly selecting a place that isn't even on the visible map yet. I'm not sure if the selection of places is clamped to the visible map area yet.
- When zooming and moving the map the visible content tiles take a long time to load. It seems like it wants to load the entire 1h time period first before anything is displayed. But I'm not even interested in playing a radar loop or sat image loop. I just want to see the latest images. They should load a lot faster like they used to in the past.
- This is more a suggestion for a change: There is plenty of screen space and vertical height in portrait mode. It's suboptimal that the menu slides in from the right when it could just stay active persistently on the bottom, easy to reach with just one hand. Please add an option to use the bottom 30-40% of the screen height for a persistent menu, i.e. it doesn't close after selecting something and stays active as long as I don't press the menu button a second time. I want to switch between different layers like sat, rad, fcst rain, fcst clouds, etc. very quickly and without having the menu overlap with the content and without having to open and close the menu all the time. I also want to switch between different forecast models without the menu getting in the way constantly. Right now I have to: open the menu, scroll all the way down and a little back up, then select the forecast source and repeat that for the next source.
Thank you for your time and for fixing these issues. Thanks for the new Radar+Satellite view that's a great addition.

@Jet-Pack Although I haven't used this version yet, I support various suggestions for optimizing the user experience.!
