You may find our free datapoint service to be suitable to your needs: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint

DataPoint is a way of accessing freely available Met Office data feeds in a format that is suitable for application developers. It is aimed at professionals, the scientific community and student or amateur developers, in fact anyone looking to re-use Met Office data within their own innovative applications.

                    Access to data includes:

                    forecast and observation map layers such as radar and cloud cover for the UK;
forecast and observed site specific data such as temperature, wind speed and direction; and,
regularly updated text forecasts for mountain weather, national parks and UK regions.

We have quite a lot of online support available for datapoint on the links below, which may provide you with some guidance if required.

                    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/about

                    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/product/uk-hourly-site-specific-observations

                    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/support/faq

Furthermore detailed user documentation and guides can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/support/documentation

We also have a small but dedicated datapoint community forum which may be able to provide you with more immediate real-time support from fellow members:

                    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/support/group

Finally if after reviewing the above links you still require support or desire a more custom/commercial feed then please provide a little more information about your requirements, which data you wish to use and how you wish to use it and we will be in a better position to assist with your enquiry.

If you have any further questions or need any additional information, please let us know. Our Weather Desk team are available to assist you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply reply to this email or give us a call on 0370 900 0100 and one of our advisors will be happy to help.

In NZ, our main weather radars are:
                      NIWA: https://weather.niwa.co.nz/
                      Metservice: http://www.metservice.com/national/home

The evening news uses the data from Metservice, but I'm not sure if they use or swap the data with NIWA. I'm also not sure if they charge.

@tomslavkovsky Maybe you should clarify (in the headline) which type of radar data you can use for windy. Sites with radar pictures doesn't help i think.
Otherwise more and more of such not helpful links are posted here.

@tomber42 Hi, georeferenced raw data is the best. However we can handle also pngs/gifs/jpegs and almost anything, but it can be difficult in some cases and is not reliable in general.
Another important parameters for measuring quality of the data source are:

                                          • Time sampling: Optimal is 5 minutes. More than 15 minutes is hardly usable
                                          • Time delay: Bigger than 15 minutes can be problematic
                                          • Spatial resolution: Should not be worse than ~2km/pixel
