Would it be possible to modify the radar colour pallet at the high reflectivity values to better indicate possible hail? For example, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology use a ‘maroon’ and ‘dark brown’ on their imagery to represent extreme rainfall or possible hail. On the BoM radar imagery, this makes it easier to identify the location inside the thunderstorm that is generating hail and extrapolate a near-term forecast for risk mitigation purposes. Another example of having a more distinct colour for possible hail is the Flight Radar site, which has the peak radar reflectivity as a deeper purple. Further examples are a number of scientific papers that have a more marked change in the colour index in their historical radar charts.

Another request is for Windy to minimise whatever process is depixelation the raw radar imagery. It is occasionally masking / blurring small area hail.

You can change the color palette your self. This article explains how to do it.

@idefix37 Thanks for your help. I wasn't aware that I could apply customisation like that. I have set some custom values and that has solved my immediate gripe.

Still, I am not sure the default values are the easiest to visualise for hail bearing thunderstorms.

@TonyS1 I've suggested this for the radar scale: https://community.windy.com/topic/37238/feature-adjustable-radar-scale

Also, you can use my radar colour scale if you'd like, I've changed it to show the more intense rain on the radar:

            [[0,[40,16,158,0]],
            [18.1938,[117,105,173,255]],
            [26,[80,91,199,255]],
            [29.3773,[45,30,214,255]],
            [35.4607,[31,219,170,255]],
            [39.0103,[67,173,136,255]],
            [41.8278,[15,84,58,255]],
            [43.8268,[232,221,73,255]],
            [47.7154,[209,171,65,255]],
            [50.1938,[204,123,24,255]],
            [53.4597,[186,99,23,255]],
            [56.2772,[204,0,0,255]],
            [58.2762,[168,28,28,255]],
            [59.8268,[115,38,38,255]],
            [61.3773,[0,0,0,255]],
            [62.6442,[0,0,0,255]],
            [66.1938,[0,0,0,255]],
            [255,[0,0,0,0]],
            [256,[128,128,128,255]]]
