I was checking the above information for various locations and found the information to be questionable. So, I checked Gaylord, Michigan. It shows that they've had roughly 9 inches of snow over the last 8 days, but I know that just a couple days ago they had over 24 inches of snow in a 24 hour period. So it's clearly not a reliable source for such information.

What source are you talking about ? The “New snow” forecast ?
This is not reported data, but prediction data and it depends on the weather model you have chosen.
Then it is snowfall that does not take into account melting and compaction.
