Atmospheric Rivers
-
Do we have a chart to visualize atmospheric rivers in windy?

@javier-ferres Total precipitable water would be the perfect way to do this. Several of us have been asking for it for years, but it currently does not exist on Windy.

The ECMWF, UKW and GFS forecast models all show an elongated corridor pattern on the wind (see screenshot) and rain accumulation. Are these indications of a possible atmospheric river?

Your wind map is at surface level, when atmospheric rivers are at higher levels in the atmosphere. I think it is a front as there is a big change of the wind direction.
The Met Office seems to confirm my hypothesis. It is confirmed in Windy by a rough change of airmass temperature at 850 hPa level.
w/customized temperature color scale
You can check the temperature at this level in Winter (North Hemisphere) for warm and cold front only. In the hotter conditions, it would be necessary to look at Equivalent Potential Temperature at this level. But in Windy this parameter is not available.
Is there an atmospheric river along this front ? I don’t know.
