      Hello,
The new version 44.0.4 is now available.
In Settings you can choose the layer and model with Use last overlay for next startup.

      Capture d’écran 2024-12-08 à 13.15.58.png

However if you look at Weather radar or Satellite it comes back to the default model and in some case when using widgets at startup.

BTW the new version 44.0.4 is now available.

This setting requires a subscription account. So that mean I have to pay to set the default model?

However if you look at Weather radar or Satellite it comes back to the default model

This sounds like a bug to me. If I select a default it should respect it and not revert back.

and in some case when using widgets at startup.

In fact I mainly use the widget to start Windy.

I'm a bit unsure if paying for the subscription really solves the issue.

Can someone with a subscription account confirm that seetting “Use last overlay” indeed works when Windy is opened using the widget with the radar screen as startup layer? So the steps are basically: change the default model from ECMWF to e.g. ICON. Close Windy. Open Windy via the widget → default display is the radar screen. Then select e.g. the wind layer and confirm it's still set to ICON rather than ECMWF.

I don’t think it does. At least not when i try!
In fact, the MSM model I use from Japan is not even selectable as a default model
            For the widget.

Additionally, even when using the last overlay settings and not launching through the widget, if resets to ECMWF model.

This is really frustrating as a premium user and is most likely the main reason why I will not renew when the time Comes.

            Also,
On another topic, the bottom left 1h3h switch is wrongly designed as far as I am concerned, the period in hours it
            Indicates should be the period
Currently selected with an arrow that let you switch the other period, i.e.
From 1 to 3h. The current design is counter intuitive!

            Best wishes!

Thanks for confirming. That's in line with what I read online.

So currently there seems to be no way to set the default forecast model.

@idefix37 I'm confused. So is there currently a setting for the default model for premium users or not? If not, can it be added? I find it quite annoying having to switch to D2 and meteorogram view every time I open Windy. Thanks.

Try it. But don't quit Windy with the Radar or Satellite layers. Quit it when the model you prefer is displayed on the screen.

@idefix37 having the exact same issue. Quitting on a different view doesn’t seem to persist the selected model.

@darrendavid It should keep the model, if you use as a default setup "use last overlay" in your settings. Then it remembers the layer and also the model from the time when you close our app.

@Suty Confirming what people wrote earlier. Even when I set ‘use last overlay’, it goes back to the default when I restart the app. I think there are at least two places where one can switch between models. It goes back to ECMWF in both places. It does remember when I switch to the Waves layer and restart. But only the layer, not the model.

@rmoehn Okay and do you talk about the model used on the map, or in the forecast detail?

Because of this bug or missing feature I have just switched to another app. This is so frustrating.
                              OK bye

@danijel.kurincic Please tell us more about the bug. Do you miss that you can't set the default model in the detail?

I’ve noticed the same behavior, especially when switching between Radar/Satellite and forecast layers. The “Use last overlay” option helps a bit, but it still seems inconsistent depending on how the app is launched. From what I’ve read in other discussions, this has been affecting both Premium and non-Premium users for quite a while.

A proper dedicated “Default Forecast Model” setting would honestly make the experience much smoother, especially for users who rely on ICON, UKV, AROME, or regional models instead of ECMWF. Different regions clearly benefit from different models, so having to manually switch every time gets frustrating fast. (community.windy.com)
