Option to toggle On/Off the Rain Radar 'Forecast' section?
-
@Suty Many thanks for the reply.
Problem is; once the focus for the page is lost(even for a minute or two), the radar now only plays the 'Forecast' section of the radar, which I'm finding woefully inaccurate.
I often have the radar page running, while I have other pages open while working here in my office.
When I come back to the radar to check it, I find the radar only playing the forecast track.Frustrating, and something that only started happening in the past month or so.
-
@Rod-Outback How exactly does this happen? You cannot play the forecast if you not intentionally click on that part of the timeline. If you play the animation of past data, it is not possible to get to the forecast animation.
-
@Rod-Outback yes! I'm with you 100% Extremely annoying when on a phone and trying to scroll to the latest radar frame and it keeps going into the forecast. They should never have added that forecast to the radar in the first place

Thats not correct; at least in both my browsers (Firefox with latest patches).
If I have multiple browser pages open, and one of them is running the historical radar data, and I change focus to another page, when I return to the Windy radar page, the radar is now only playing the 'Forecast' section of the radar.I dont know why it's happening, but this seems to have started in the past few weeks, but possibly longer(not 100% sure).
Again; I'm not sure who gets any benefit from the 'Forecast' radar, because in our case (Western QLD - Australia), the 'Forecast' is woefully inaccurate.
Being able to toggle this feature ON/OFF would be a great thing; in my world, at least.
[And it seems I'm not the only person who's experiencing it..] -
@Rod-Outback
On/off toggle or switch for radar "forecast" would be stupendous. -
@Rod-Outback For how long you have to be on that another tab or window to make this work?

"Make this work?" ?? - I'm not trying to force this problem; hence my suggestion there's a toggle for the forecast be switched on/off(as is done with 'lightning', 'sound', and 'my location').
I've found NO set time-frame for the change to happen.
This morning, it happened in a matter of minutes; while I was checking the news on ABC.NET.AU.
Within maybe 5 minutes of looking at the news, the radar had switched to running the forecast rain.Tried to repeat it(to try to pin down an exact event) and couldnt get it to happen again.
I had wondered if it was something like an onLostFocus event when the radar updated to the latest imagery(every 10 minutes?), but cant seem to find the exact trigger to cause it to happen on demand. But happen again, it will!
And it's frustrating.
Definately happening on both my laptops running Firefox, but not 100% sure I've seen it on my Android phone, yet. -
@Suty I am having the same problem. I use three monitors and have Windy displayed on one of them. After a few minutes working on my 'work' monitor, weather radar starts playing forecast as well as real time. This has become quite annoying. I have to refresh the page to get rid of forecast mode. Also the forecasts are laughably bad, frequently changing the direction of rain movement by 90 degrees. As well as an option to turn off, might I suggest that forecast mode be retired until the bugs are ironed out.

Looks like it was around 5-8 minutes apart, but definitely jumped, while I wasnt moving/clicking anything on the screen.
I keep coming back to something happening when the radar imagery updates, and the 'Forecast' section takes focus.
But it definitely does jump from Radar, to Forecast, on it's own. -
I seem to have over a dozen of these error console messages:-

It would be amazing for a toggle to turn off the totally useless and inaccurate radar forecast. I'll settle for the bug being fixed. It is very annoying, I have gone back to using the BOM rain radar rather than Windy.
Very disappointing either way. A bug or an intentional feature. Although making a once useful page entirely useless intentionally seems par for the course these days.

@TerminallyTired
If you leave the radar loop playing on the white timeline, where is the issue ?
Don’t toggle on the red timeline to get only real radar data. -
I think the problem is when you want to look at the past just a few frames without playing the whole sequence it's difficult to get back to the latest frame. I've just tried it now on Android, tired to go to the latest frame at it said "0 minutes ago" which of course you'd assume is the latest but of course it actually wasn't. You basically have to close the app down and then reopen it to know you're really at the latest frame again which is a bit annoying.
Perhaps if Windy are determined to keep it without having the option to turn off there could be a latest frame button so you definitely know you're back at the beginning?

Do You really need to close the app?
On iOS, if you press the Play button, the loop on the white timeline starts and stops briefly when it reaches the last frame before starting again. If you press the Stop button during the brief stop, you get the last frame of the loop.
For me, the problem occurs when you want to manually scroll the timeline. There is no stop between the white timeline and the red one (future) and therefore it is not possible to manually block the last frame. -
I'm more thinking of about using it as a hands free option when driving whilst storm chasing. Having to press buttons at exact times is no good for me.
It was a problem that occurred last year. I was chasing a storm, probably looked at the last few frames. About 15 minutes later the sky looked nothing like the radar presentation but that was because it was stuck on some past frame and not at the latest.
The long and the short of it is many people would find it useful to disable the future forecast when not required.
-
@idefix37 It does not stay on the white timeline. It jumps to playing the red timeline only, usually after viewing a different tab/window for a short time in the browser.
-
I've also been experiencing this bug the last few months.
I have windy open in the corner on one monitor in radar mode all the time. After a little while, it will skip out of the white 'real data' mode and then shift across to only playing the red forecast mode. This is without any intervention or input. If i click back into the white bar it will then loop only the white bar for a while until it pops again and gets stuck in forecast mode.
Id settle for either disabling forecast mode as an option or fixing the bug.

My vote is to allow the users to disable the "forecast" so it's removed from sight. This setting can be a cloud saved setting like the 1h/3h switch.

I also am experiencing this bug. Please fix this Windy.

BOM
I am experiencing the same thing here. I have a Windows PC running Chrome (also does the same thing in Edge) that only runs the radar. It is displayed on our TV's in our hospital. Nothing else is going on with this PC and after some time, minutes to hours, it changes to the red section and only shows the future radar. Moving the yellow dot back to the white slider corrects this for a while and then reverts back to the red section on it's own. I have had this issue for a number of months now.
