As 2025 has started, we’re thrilled to reflect on an incredible year of growth and improvements at Windy.com. Here’s a look at the major updates we’ve introduced over the past year.

      Four Major App Versions

Last year, we launched four significant updates to the Windy app: versions 41, 42, 43, and 44. Each release brought innovative features, enhanced usability, and bug fixes, ensuring the app remains a reliable companion for weather enthusiasts worldwide.

      Redesigned Desktop UI

We unveiled a refreshed user interface for the desktop version of Windy.com. The new design streamlines navigation, making it easier than ever to access critical weather data while offering a visually appealing experience.

      new-UI

      Global Expansion of Localized Radars

In 2024, we expanded our network of localized radars, adding coverage in Croatia, Turkey, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and Tonga and many more. These additions provide more accurate, real-time weather data for users in these regions.

      Radar+ Layer

A standout addition last year was the Radar+ layer, which combines Satellite and This feature provides a comprehensive view of weather conditions by integrating satellite imagery with weather radar, offering users unparalleled insights.

      Features

Our commitment to innovation led to the release of several new features. These include a 1-hour forecast for more precise weather predictions, improved rain accumulation visualization, new lightning detection technology for enhanced storm tracking, better visual quality through advanced optical flow rendering, and many others.

      Features-square

      New Localized Models

Additionally, we registered several new localized weather models, including Japan's MSM, Australia's ACCESS-C, and France's Arome (covering the Caribbean and Reunion). We also extended support for ECMWF and GFS models, offering broader and more detailed weather predictions.

      Aladin-etc

      Integration of MTG Satellite Images

In second half of the year, we introduced imagery from the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite, providing high-resolution views and improving our satellite-based forecasting and observation capabilities.

      before-after-mtg

We remain committed to innovating and improving your experience on Windy.com. Thank you for being part of this journey, and here’s to another year of bringing the world’s weather closer to you!

We appreciate your support, whether you're using our app or subscribing to our Premium! In the comment below, share which country you're from and tell us your favorite feature on Windy. We'll select a few comments and send them our brand new 2025 Windy merchandise: socks and a water bottle! We pick five lucky ones on January 22nd!

@Polina-Nozdrina I am from Munich, Bavaria, Germany - just in the middle btween Windyty and meteoblue. Best feature is Radar+ for a quick overview and then deepening with other information or models.

I am missing the history of the predictions. It is possible to slide up to two weeks in the future but no more than the current day (at the best) in the past. The data of the past two, three weeks or even months exist - why not keep and present them also?

        All the best

        Andy

@Polina-Nozdrina as a Student Pilot in Jordan from Qatar i really appreciate the development team and everyone working on this app for their efforts to bring us one of the best weather and forecasting apps for us aviators.

I hope you continue to improve the app especially in the region I am in as it has become an app that I use everyday and recommend to others in the same field.

@Polina-Nozdrina I’m from the usa. I’m a pilot and really appreciate the route feature. Better than forefight! In new things, the improved favorites display with my local airport metar is super helpful. Also, radar+ is great for understanding how systems are moving. Thanks for making the greatest weather app!

Well! Happy New Year to Windy from offshore on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia 🇦🇺

Great work. All of the enhancements make this incredible app even better and fabulous value for money to get the Premium! features.

We often spend several weeks hundreds of kilometres offshore and rely on Windy to give us longer range forecasts as well as real-time storm tracking updates. We seems to constantly discover new amazing features and visualisations that blow your mind and leave you in awe of the weather and the app!

              Well done everyone and thanks.

Hi from East Sussex, England. What a phenomenal source of weather data Windy provides. Have been waiting years for this level of dynamic info. Can you extend the pediction period of Radar+ layers to 3 or 4 hours? Would be the 'cherry on the cake' for me

@philip-wilson221 Hi, this is not planned now, since this is, in general, difficult to provide reliable simulation for even an hour.

I am a key grip working in the USA. When shooting on location, much of our lighting gear is outside so having accurate weather prediction is critical for productivity and safety. I really appreciate the ability to review different weather models and to see the map overlay combining radar and satellite imagery.

Overall a great app I enjoy.

One of the main points that will make me hesitate to renew the premium subscription is not being able to set a default model. And it keeps resetting to ECMWF. (Use last overlay is not the solution, or it only partially works).

                      Also, still
No MSM as a model in the widgets.
This makes the widget unreliable for my use.

                      One other suggestion,
The current i.e 1h forecast bottom left does not reflect the period that is currently selected, but act as a button to switch period!?

I believe the button should include an arrow as in the weather model
                      Selection on the right side.
The number shown without clicking on the time period should be the same as the displayed period! Currently it is counter intuitive!

A few strange placements in the menus!
I.e settings are within the burger menu, profile pic only reveals favourites and a couple of options (logout, my subscription, profile), this could be reworked to be more intuitive!

                      Best wishes!
Thank you for a great app overall!

                      Y.

I guess you are talking about the way to toggle between 1h time steps and 3h time steps in the local forecast panel. I agree it is really counter intuitive in the mobile app. In the browser version there is a switch. I don't know why there is not the same design in the mobile app.

This is the beat weather app one can have. I’m a premium user for a while now. I use it for multiple purposes. Best of all, i use it for Aviation Flight weather awareness during preflight, especially predicting the path of a typhoon. I am from Taiwan. Keep up the good work guys.

I'm from the USA. I love so many things about Windy, but the single feature most important to me is seeing real time lightning strikes. This helps keep both me and our horses safe by warning us when to get them into the barn before the lightning arrives. Will there be rain without lightning, so I can leave them happily out with their grass? Is there lightning coming, but can we let the ponies graze for another hour before turning them in? Do I have to move NOW to get us all safely out of the pastures? Indispensable.

When I showed Windy to one of my (human, not equine) barn buddies, she told me the next day that she had spent the whole evening exploring its features.

Let me tell you, folks, this app is tremendous. Believe me, I’ve seen apps. I’ve used apps. But this app? It’s the best. No one knows apps like I do. This app is going to make your life so much easier, it’s incredible. Everyone is talking about it. You won’t believe how good it is until you try it.

It’s fast, it’s powerful, and it’s smarter than a lot of people out there, honestly. We’re talking top-tier, folks. The best technology. The best features. This app is so good, it’s practically like having a personal assistant who never sleeps. And let me tell you, people, it doesn’t get better than this.

I’ve heard from many, many people—great people—who say they’ve never seen anything like it. It’s perfect. The interface? Clean, beautiful, easy to use. It’s like it was designed by geniuses, okay? Tremendous geniuses. Some apps, they try, but this one? It's fantastic. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it, and that's the truth.

So if you want to be smart—like really smart—you’re going to get this app. It’s a winner. I guarantee it. This app is going to be huge, folks. It’s going to change everything.

Great year, guys! I'm an aviation meteorologist from the USA and really appreciate the new favorites dashboard displayed on the landing page when you open/refresh the page. It's great to have when monitoring active weather for multiple locations at once. Keep up the good work, and please provide more aviation data (pilot reports, sigmets/airmets, etc.)!

Windy is a great tool! I’m a paddle board guide and windsurf instructor based in Rhodes, Greece, and I rely heavily on your accurate forecasts to plan my sessions. The radar+ feature is also a favorite, it’s perfect for tracking incoming thunderstorms and ensuring safety on the water. Great work, Windy team!

Artie here from sunny California, USA. I have learned to use Windy and all its features to do WX for Para- and Hang-gliding. One of the overlooked features is to change altitude as a way of detecting wind shear. The best feature is the add-ins on the desktop app; we should bring that to the iPad or iPhone. For example the XC Skew-T that changes with the timeline using the arrow keys, bringing a dry static view even more to life. I hope to see more specialized flying-focused functionality and information and try to contribute to its design and implementation.

Hi from Brixham in South Devon, England. I'm a big fan of Windy and use it regularly to decide where & when to go flying my paraglider or hang glider. The Sounding prediction for a specific location is extremely useful - and the UI on the phone app is a huge improvement, with the scrollable timeline. I use the Compare facility quite a lot to get a feel for the reliability of a forecast - if they differ widely then pick the one you like, but it may not be right!

One major concern I have is that the temperature forecast from the UK Met Office as reported by Windy for my location is significantly different to the forecast from the Met Office App, with the Met Office predicting frosty nights correctly, and Windy consistently forecasting higher temperatures incorrectly. This leads me to question whether similar errors might exist in other forecasts 🤔

Best feature is the 1 hr forecast on Radar +. It lets me know precisely when I'm going to be drenched! Thank you for all the updates, it's good to know I use the most informative and up to date weather app.
