I sail in and around San Diego, California. I find that the ECMWF model is frequently way off around here while the HRRR/GFS combination is usually much closer. A couple of times, before I learned of the different models, the default ECMWF was telling me I should have winds in the teens while we were sitting becalmed for so long that we gave up and motored back into the bay and home.
But Windy seems to think that ECMWF is so superior that it is going to be the default and I cannot change that. Or I cannot find where to change it. Every time I look at the forecast I must remember to change it from ECMWF to HRRR. Could we have a setting for the default model?

There is a workaround to open Windy with your preferred model.
First choose the model and layer you want to set as default. Then in Settings -> Start-up location and layer -> Start-up layer -> Use last overlay.
It works if you don’t start Windy with the widget and if you still have the same layer and model displayed when you quit the app. Otherwise the last overlay is considered as new default for next time.
