HRDPS - Forecast doesn’t match map
-
Hi there,
Great work on the new features in this app added in 2024! Looking forward to more in 2025 :)I notice that for locations in Ontario, Canada, the HRDPS forecasts do not match what the maps depict. For instance, there is a winter storm coming and the precipitation type map shows widespread snow, while the HRDPS forecast for that location only shows rain. I’m inclined to believe the map based on other sites that post HRDPS model runs.
Also, it would be great to have total snowfall ratio posted as a layer for HRDPS - Tropical Tidbits has it posted (https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/?model=hrdps®ion=neus&pkg=asnow&runtime=2024123106&fh=12)
Cheers

What you call total snowfall is probably same as the New snow layer in Windy. But unfortunately this layer is not available with HRDPS

Just wondering where Tropical Tidbits get this data for the HRDPS model (per the link I shared)?

while the HRDPS forecast for that location only shows rain
In the areas where snowfalls are forecast in the Precipitation type layer, the local forecast by HRDPS displays snow expressed in CM or IN.

That makes sense and is what I would expect, but if you check that forecast for a location in Ontario right now, it is not what the forecast presents - as in, snow is rain in the forecast. Check Peterborough, Ontario for instance

@FerroFlux
You are right there is some inconstancy between Precipitation type layer and the local forecast -
@idefix37 Wondering if the team has noted this issue
