Regressing....it's 2025 and we STILL can't save a startup model
-
Why, after all this time, is it still not possible to set the default forecast model that the app opens with? ie ECMWF is useless where I live, and even when the widget is set to something else the app opens with ECMWF. This was fixed at one time...sort of. I remember being able to set the widget to a model and the app would open in the same model when launching via the widget. Now that's broken again.
This is ridiculous (in my opinion). Can someone please explain why this is so hard...especially when so many have been asking for it for years and paying for premium while waiting? Why can't we have an option in the app to open on a particular model just like we have for all the other settings, locations, layers, etc.
While we're at it, why are different models available in the widget that are not in the app and vice versa ie why can I select HRDPS in the app but not in the widget, and why can I select several different models in the widget but not the app eg NEMS, ACCESS, UKV, AROME, etc. This makes absolutely no sense.
After all this time and all the users who have paid for premium for years, this app still feels like a beta that is constantly in flux. Even today I experienced a bug where the ECMWF forecast would simply not switch to hourly even though all the other models were showing hourly no problem. Eventually it corrected itself.
Sorry to rant so hard but I've been on board with Windy for years and I'm still complaining about things that seem like pretty basic and rudimentary, and seeing inconsistent and unexplainable bugs. I can't be the only one.

Thanks for asking this again! That's my main pain point using Windy, too. I cannot imagine how other people are really using Windy on a daily basis. Or are they all just using ECMWF forecasts?! That at least could explain a lot of the bug reports regarding unprecise weather forecasts here in the community ;-) The known "workarounds" are not really working for a simple daily usage.
Currently I have to use the multimodel view to get another forecast model that ECMWF but that's far away from comfortable or user friendly. Maybe Windy hast to pay for each query which is not ECMWF and therefore they want us to avoid using other forecast models...? I have to idea.
This seems to be the most wanted (and most basic) feature requested but sadly there is no road map for this. Apart from this missing feature I'm quite happy with Windy but I'm not using the app.
