In my region, radar coverage is not available. Is it possible to tell if a cloud is a storm cloud using satellite images? Are the darker clouds higher in altitude?

@mbmpc I would recommend checking other layers for your locations, for example Rain, thunder, then Thunderstorms and various Cloud layers for getting further info about the altitude of clouds.

@mbmpc ⛈ Here´s an example:

Without radar coverage, you can look at INFRA+ layer. The red and dark areas are surely thunderstorms.More information in this thread

@idefix37 Does each region have a satellite to take images in real time?
-
@mbmpc
Yes Windy provides satellite imagery in every country almost in real time.

See a related postlight thunderstorms (3h) what does this 3 hours mean?

@mbmpc
This means that the 0.6mm of rain is predicted to be cumulated during the 3 last hours. Last 3 hours before the current model time stamp (I can’t tell exactly as you don’t show all the screen). -

How can i tell which cloud is the highest ?
Instead of Blue, select Visible: the white clouds are the highest and the yellowish ones the lowest.
