      Hello Windy Team,

I would like to suggest a feature that could greatly enhance the user experience. It would be incredibly helpful if the radar could display icons or visual markers to indicate the type of precipitation, such as snow, freezing rain, or other weather phenomena.

      Thank you!

Would love to see increased radar data, lots available, just not in Windy yet.

However, not all radar's have the capability to determine the shape and size of what is falling. It needs to be a dual-polarization radar. Not to mention all the post processing needed to filter out the noise and non-precip returns.

I guess what I'm saying is I understand why they don't have that data available for all radar data they present to us on a global scale.

However, I am very interested in seeing velocity scan data at a minimum. My understanding is that all weather radar's should have that data.

          Thank you for the explanation!
I understand the technical challenges in integrating precipitation type data, especially with the need for dual-polarization radar and the complexity of post-processing.

I find the velocity scan data idea very interesting. It would be very useful to have at least this information on Windy.

I made this suggestion because I noticed that another app, Ventusky, already has a feature to display precipitation types (e.g., snow, rain) directly on the radar. This made me wonder if it could also be implemented on Windy in the future.

Do you think there are plans to add at least velocity scan data? Or are there other limitations preventing it?

Thank you again for your time!

@michele7 I have no idea friend, I'm just opinionated sometimes haha
@Suty Any plans for enhancing radar capabilities in the future? Precip Type? Velocity? etc?

Ventusky show precipitation in their so-called radar map in the middle of the Atlantic and the Pacific.
Do you think there are real radar installations there?

Ventusky uses a combination of radar, weather models and algorithms to determine the type of precipitation (rain, snow, hail, etc.) I guess

Yes, so it is not radar data that provides the type of precipitation.

In fact, I asked if there was a way to implement this function. They explained to me that it is not so simple. However, I would still like to have this function, even if the data is not provided by the radar. I know it is not precise, but it is interesting to get an idea of what’s going on.

                      Who explained this ?

By the way the discussion about using snow forecast data mixed with pure radar data is still open.

@Wheats explained why at the moment is not possible to implement what I asked for.

@Wheats @michele7 Yes, we have certain plans for this enhancement, but for now, I don't have any specific time period when this will be done.

Mixing real radar data (observation) and snow data (forecast) will lead to many complaints.
We know that the limit between rain and snow is very difficult to predict. This limit is not exactly at 0°C because it can snow at 4°C due to the cooling of the air with heavy snowfalls.

Then we know that temperature forecasts by medium-resolution models used for global coverage are wrong in mountains.

I am sorry for the off topic, but I can't find a discussion here on the forum. Why does the satellite animation stop in the last 25/30 minutes? Has this bug already been reported? Or is it just my problem

                                  Thanks!

By "stop" what do you mean exactly? Does it go blank? Does it just not update? Does the bar no longer move?
If you can provide some pictures and clarification (like what is happening and what device/browser you are using), that will help Windy team.

Yes sure. The animation freezes while the timeline bar continues to move. Is it a bug or it’s normal? (I am using the Windy app latest version 44.1.2, IPhone 16 pro max IOS 18.2.1)

I uploaded a recording of my screen.

@michele7 I can't really help but as a user who wanders this forum fairly often I really appreciate the extra detail and video recording... Can't tell you how often I see the admins/mods just trying to get this exact information out of people, like pulling teeth sometimes I can imagine lol
