Feature Suggestions for Windy.com
-
Dear Windy Team,
Your app is already an excellent tool for weather analysis, but I have a few suggestions that could further enhance forecasting capabilities:
- Geopotential (e.g., 500 hPa, 850 hPa) – essential for understanding large-scale weather patterns, such as troughs and ridges.
- Multi-parameter Display – the ability to view multiple parameters simultaneously (e.g., wind temperature and geopotential) would greatly improve analysis.
- Additional Meteorological Parameters:
- Vertical Motion (Omega values) – helps identify areas of rising air, which is key for precipitation forecasting.
- Vorticity – useful for detecting cyclonic development and dynamic processes.
- Wave Structures – including Rossby waves and upper-level flow patterns.
- NAO Index and Other Climate Indices – valuable for seasonal trends and large-scale circulation insights.
Would it be possible to integrate these features in future updates?
Best regards,

- Geopotential is already available in Windy as isolines. Pressure isolines -> Geopotential. Personally in addition, I would like to have a color layer of Geopotential that could be overlaid by ASL pressure isolines or temp isolines at same level.
- There are already some possibilities to visualize 2 parameters. A color shaded layer + isolines. But if you imagine adding and mixing several color shaded layers, the result will be rather very poor.
- Wave structures. The flow at high level is already available. Select Wind and set the level with the Altitude slider that you can combine with geopotential height isolines.

Thank you for the detailed response!
It's good to know that geopotential is already available as isolines and can be combined with other parameters. The ability to visualize multiple parameters at the same time is definitely useful for analysis. A more flexible multi-parameter display could make it even easier to extract key information quickly.
I’ll also take a closer look at the options for visualizing wave structures using upper-level wind flow and geopotential isolines.
Thanks again for the insights!
