Allow for model rearrange or show all models on desktop
-
Hello,
A few updates back, the model selector on desktop took on a compact view. Don't get me wrong, I love compact views. However, as implemented it adds some extra clicks and I think could be improved with some tweaks.
It would be nice if we could rearrange which models show in this compact view or alternatively "force" the model selector to show all available models for the given viewing area without automatically collapsing.
Thank you!

@illili Thank you for your feedback and suggestion. We are aware of many preferences of various users and if we implement all these feedbacks, there will be a button for literally everything, which will be confusing. We are doing our best to follow all feedbacks but we cannot satisfy all of them.

I agree with the comment about the compact view. At the same time, I understand that it’s not practical to implement every individual user preference. A reasonable compromise might be to eliminate the compact view altogether. Since the goal is often to compare multiple models, keeping the expanded view by default would streamline the process and reduce the extra steps required to toggle between views.

@Suty For sure. I know it's a small team and this app punches above its weight. It's not super frustrating, just something that would be nice to have.
I appreciate the response!

@Suty Could the developers consider adding a keyboard short-cut to toggle between the available models instead of needing to mouse over the selection bar AND a user option to re-arrange the model selection order, so favoured models are adjacent to each other.

@stitch
A fairly old question :)

@Suty
But would be really useful, to compare layers from 2 (or more) models at same time step. -
@idefix37 just a subtle prompt 👈🙂

@idefix37 and I could bring this old chestnut up again.... https://community.windy.com/topic/22719/multi-panel-nwp-display?_=1744492936362

@idefix37 For now, it is not technically possible to handle that and offer, for example, split display. However, we are planning changes in the used technology to offer something like this.

@dstenehjem That's how it was for a while if I recall (at least on desktop). I could see how in some regions where lots of models are available it could become noisy (particularly Europe where the team is mostly based I think).
