Australian Digital Forecast Database ADFD as a model option?
-
Just wondering if its possible for Windy to include the Australian Digital Forecast Database (ADFD) from BoM as a model display option? The ADFD is a gridded dataset based on multiple global and regional models but also edited by forecasters at BoM. Its similar to the US National Digital Forecast Database and some of the same tools (Graphical Forecast Editor) are used.
You can access sample ADFD grids at ftp://ftp.bom.gov.au/anon/sample/catalogue/ADFD/
Doco at http://www.bom.gov.au/catalogue/adfdUserGuide.pdfWhy?
I'd love to see the ADFD data in the the Windy "Compare forecasts" and "Observation v forecast" features!
If you want to visualise the ADFD you can go to http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/
(though its nowhere near as good as WIndy!!). -
Hi @Bruce-Gunn-2, BoM's ADFD (~2km resolution for Vic and Tas, ~5km resolution for rest of domains) is currently not available and there is not plan to add it.
For Australia, ACCESS (~12km resolution) and ACCESS-C (~1.5km resolution) forecasts are available. -
@Filip_K I think the ADFD doco was updated in 2023. There's now a single Australian national grid at ~5km resolution.
Theoretically the ADFD should be better quality than raw model output.
Reckon Windy should give it some thought!
