About Windy
-
I use to display the Temperature layer at 850hPa altitude. It gives a rough idea of the position of fronts specially the cold fronts.
If you look at the current weather map analysis you see the cold and warm fronts
You see cold fronts in the Atlantic and one, but shown as a stationary front, from Greece to the Baltic Sea.
You can imagine them with the Temperature layer at 850hPa
It is more obvious if you consider the areas with a high temperature gradient (select temperature isolines instead of pressure isolines). Fronts stand where you find temperature isolines close together:
I must say that it is easier to see where fronts stand in winter because the temperature contrasts are more important. In summer it is not so easy.

@idefix37 thanks a lot, that's helpful, appreciate it!!! Sotir
-
@sotirpopov Are those images showing warm and cold fronts you made, are from Windy? I can't figure out how to display them?
-
I think I started getting the idea - playing with isolines for pressure and temperatures, based on your images. Thanks a lot! Sotir

@sotirpopov
Just select Temperature and adjust the altitude slider at 850hPa. -
Excelent app
-
Would it be possible to add earthquakes?
-
@RosaLeal Hello, we may add it in the future as a new feature.

@the-old-man Another old man here who just loves this program! There are so many components of Windy that I love but having the ability to see whats reported and then what's actual is pretty neat. Also, instant gratification on my "favorites "with respect to forecasting and cams. I'm now experimenting with route planning which I intend to use this summer. **
Absolutely the best weather program I've ever seen and believe me, I've seen them all!

good morning I am Tariq from Saudi Arabia I love to thank you for the wind millions first wind destination program to know the weather I have a question I subscribed to you in support of you and I did not find a difference between free and subscription I have proposals to develop the program Add a lightning map Add the British model Rain radar development Add cumulative forecasts for wind and rain Add more satellite images of dust, dust, air masses and moisture I hope you more progress thank you
-
Hi, the difference between subscription and normal Windy is 1 hour forecast you can access.
What would be the benefit of cumulative forecast for wind? -
Afaik. cumulative wind , as well as wind rose polar plots, are highly useful for wind power plants, but forecast computation is based on real time data and would require observations over large periods.

Btw., Wind Accumulations data layer is already available: https://www.windy.com/-Wind-accumulation-gustAccu?gfs,gustAccu,42.163,-27.598,3

Without question the best meteo site and app I have ever encountered. I used quite a lot but none can beat Windy. My kudos and gruezi in die Schweiz aus Fernost.

@ivo thank you for this great app
-
Fantastic web app and iOS app, this is clearly my new favourite. I live in Norway and oftentimes found that weather data was cut, and North Norway missing, which I found a pity and annoying. Also on more exhaustive web sites, it got really complex and difficult to find relevant weather information.
But you managed it all: nothing cut and no need to dig in stuff for hours, plus I see that there is API access, so to say: the sky is the limit. Your team looks great, congratulations and keep up with the excellent work! Cheers :-) -
@AnneEst Thank you for your support! :)

Only passion and love can result in something as stunning as windy...I salute your talent. I run SAFESEAS with another ship captain pal of mine and for sure we will promote windy all the way in our web tutorials that focus on safety, safe seafarer and safe sea environment. I hope you will consider us for any maritime collab you Capt Bhan 917838748668 whatsaap, India

Awesome project dveloped. I liked the way you have kept it simple and easy to understand. The way you have started this organisation i liked that also.
