Yes, it's definitely a great idea to make a setting possible for default forecast model. The current default for Europe does little good in the SW United States.

It is possible to open Windy with the model that you prefer:

I agree. This needs to be a feature since EMCWF is not very good at predicting wind in a lot of places making alerts useless.

Any update on this topic? Is it considered in one one of the next releases?

One cannot save weather model preferences in current implementation, for this clear reason.
As already said upper in this thread (and in yet other threads), as a workaround one can add API parameters in the URL used to open Windy.
Default URL is https://windy.com, which displays default ECMWF GLOBAL model on map centered on your IP (or your last Favorite) location, at zoom scale 5 (about 1:17M, or 1cm:170 km).
Instead, you can use one of following URLs to open Windy; the last 3 values separated by comma are Lat/Lon of map center, and the map zoom scale:

              • ECMWF (default): https://www.windy.com/?38.162,16.486,9
              • GFS GLOBAL: https://www.windy.com/?gfs,38.162,16.486,9
              • ICON EU: https://www.windy.com/?iconEu,38.162,16.486,9
              • ICON GLOBAL: https://www.windy.com/?icon,47.162,2.486,9
              • AROME: https://www.windy.com/?arome,47.162,2.486,9
              • NEMS: https://www.windy.com/?nems,47.162,2.486,9
              • NAM CONUS: https://www.windy.com/namConus,46.740,-102.217,3

Currently selected model in URLs above should cover selected position, otherwise map automatically shifts to default model, position and zoom scale.
Moreover, you can also trick with default data layer (which is wind - of course :o); e.g. this URL will display Temperature data layer for GFS model when you open Windy: https://www.windy.com/-Temperature-temp?gfs,temp,47.8,2.5,7

              ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The chrome/browser workaround is a nice trick, but as others have mentioned, it doesn't impact the widget and means you're operating in a browser. Residing in a past of the world where the ECMWF forecast isn't as accurate as an alternative, it would really be really nice to establish a preferred model to work throughout the app and widget.

                Thanks for a great product!

                  Echoing this request.

The default model is awful in my area, but meteoblue is great. Would happily keep my Pro subscription going if I could change the default for the Android app and widget.

@jack-thorgeirson Hello, we are constantly working on new features, Premium users may now set their default layer for instance. Default model is something we plan for the future as well.

@korina please add this feature also on iPhone app.
Would be great save all these settings into the account.

                        Thanks

@korina hello, hope you take into account this feature soon, it's a bit annoying switching everytime from ECMWF to personal forecast choice.
It would be cool to hide some forecast model too.
                              Thanks.

Indeed, this would be welcome :)
I think it's high time this option was available on Windy, at least for premium users at first. This is a really simple feature to implement, especially as similar options are already present in the app (position and start layer).

@eseltwift Hello, you can already save default forecast model. Choose the layer and model you desire, then go to settings -> Start-up layer -> Start-up layer -> Use last overlay. This will save layer and selected model as your default.

Hello @korina, it was a bit hidden but it does work. Thanks a lot!
