Question about cloud forecast in profile/route planning view
-
Hi Windy team,
I'm writing with a question about the cloud forecast in the VFR route planning view. I've experimented with a few different routes where the visual representation of the clouds seems to taper off at an altitude of 10k, like in the screenshot attached, but the cloud tops are shown in number form as 30k+. Is there a way to see what the cloud forecast looks like above 10k? I'm asking because it would be helpful to understand if I could climb above the clouds at 12k for example, or if the clouds go all the way up in a solid layer to 30k. I'm not sure if the visual representation seems to stop at 10k simply because that's the limit of the view, or if the forecast is actually for the top of that particular layer to stop at 10k. Thank you,
David

Hi @davidlowe24, in the VFR view, the visual cloud display ends at FL100, which means that clouds above this level are not visible in this mode. Cloud cover above FL100 can be viewed, for example, in the meteogram for a specific location (I know, not ideal for route planning). I’ll forward your question to the Windy team.
Warm regards, Jari
