Wind-barbs obviously and dramatically wrong
-
It just appeared (browser app), that there is a significant discrepancy between the wind-data shown for the different models at the lower side of the screen and the actual wind-barbs on the map.
The current weather situation is characterized by constant south-easterly winds. Still, for a certain time the wind-barb for the model UKV shows north-westerly wind while for the same model along the lower side of the the screen I see a constant wind direction from the south-east (see screenshot).
How is this possible?

Hi,
I think this is the same issue as my report at
https://community.windy.com/topic/39940/wind-barbs-show-wrong-speed-and-direction-for-first-time-period-in-wind-display-mode -
I just wanted to check wind for the beginning of next week. Below a screenshot of what Windy is trying to convince me of. How am I supposed to take your app as a serious tool to make plannings at the moment? Its more like a tool, that make nice colorful pictures than something reliable.
It starts to become tragic.
-
Can you please tell me what I can rely on? Is it the map or is it the tabular forecast at the lower part of the screen?
The example, that I just posted is so dramatically inconsistent, that I start to question using Windy altogether. Sorry to say that. Windy was the best tool on the market. But at the moment it is just a huge car accident.

@Suty Here another strange thing.
For both screenshots the picker is at exactly the same location. Weather model is ECMWF, hourly forecast.
What I see:
14:00, tabular data at bottom of screen: Green, wind 12kn, gusts 20kn. Map: Orange.
23:00, tabular data at bottom of screen: 18kn, gusts 26kn. Map: Green, the barb on the map says 12kn, gusts 24kn.
Please explain how I should interpret this. What is true: Tabular data or map?

Same Issue Safari, MacOS. Because of not sure which information is correct (is one of them anyhow) Windy is currently unusable for me.
-
@Andreas78A Thank you. It is simply unbelievable.
@Suty, what do you think? Can this be fixed quickly?
-
@Ftjwinfs @Andreas78A @Nick_at_Windy
There is already fix done and ready to be tested and released in version 47, right now, the table is moved a bit, so values are correct on the map. I am sorry about this fix and appreciate your patience with this issue.
-
@Suty Thank you for the info regarding a fix.
Today while sailing, I stumbled upon another very ugly inconsistency.
I checked wind (1h resolution) and first selected the ECMWF model to check the map as well as the tabular data. After that, I switched to ICON-D2 to check the map (the location is exactly the same, of course, tabular data should not change, only the order will be different).
But what appeared is that the data in the table actually changes. And it changes dramatically, for all weather models the wind prediction is significantly different. Please see screenshots below.
This is unacceptable. What should I believe? Which forecasts are right?
I urge you, please do better testing. I start to feel to be your beta tester (as a paying user...)
Do not focus on fancy icons in the sidebar. Simply take care, that the fundamental basics work. As long as you have such fundamental bugs, any tinkering on icons is hilarious.

@Suty When will v47 be ready?
-
I idefix37 referenced this topic

@Suty thank you for acknowledging this bug. But it's more than just a table being moved a little bit, the table seems to have no relationship at all to the arrows at the location. Even if you look several hours and either direction, the arrows have no relationship to the values in the table.
Here's a screenshot showing what I mean

@stevecrye I really hope that this is fixed on short notice. I am currently on a sailing trip, it was planned to do the weather planning with Windy. But the current buggy state of Windy really lets me reconsider.
-
@Ftjwinfs I will discuss it with colleagues, it should be earlier than v47, probably 46.1 or 46.2 in upcoming weeks. Thank you for your patience.
-
@Suty Please. As you can see by my many posts oder the last days, the documented issues are no joke. As a sailor, these bugs make Windy unusable for me. I seriously started looking for other tools.
You write "probably 46.1 or 46.2 in upcoming weeks".
Please fast-track this! These bugs are no "nice-to-have" thing. Fixing these bugs needs to to be re-prioritized as soon as possible in the dev-team at Windy.
Please realize, that currently you deliver plain wrong and misleading wind-data to your users. At least I know now and can act accordingly (= avoiding Windy). But others users, who do not follow this forum, might not have realized this. This is critical.
At least make sure, that the wind-data in the table at the lower part of the screen is consistent and correct. As I documented, currently the wind-data changes drastically for all models, depending on which model I chose.
The really sad thing about all of this is, that Windy worked perfectly fine before.
-
@Suty In case, the bugs cannot be fixed in a matter of a few days:
Can you please let me know, which of the wind-data that Windy shows in the tabular part at the lower part of the screen is valid and which is wrong?
I assume, you could discuss this with colleagues and at least give me some feedback, which wind-data correctly reflects the actual forecast of a certain model which wind-data is corrupt.
Even if fixing the bugs takes Windy some time, this would allow me to use it with more confidence.
Thank you in advance.
-
@Suty can you at least apply the fix to the website? Right now, Windy is pretty much unusable for us. The arrows around the point location have no relationship at all to any of the values in the table.
You ought to be able to update your back end servers quickly, then take your time with version 47 of the app.
We are frustrated and tired of waiting. We wish that you would focus more on core functionality, instead of cool pretty new features. I personally was totally happy with the features that you had 3 years ago, and 3 years ago, the forecast for at least more accurate!
-
@Ftjwinfs as a paraglider pilot, I used to rely on Windy for a quick first order of approximation of surface conditions, before diving in deeper with tools like XC skies.
Now I'm not even bothering with Windy. It's useless and unusable currently.

Yes I concur.
Yesterday I reported on this, which has been an issue for some time; commonly the wind barbs lagging behind the data-table by 1-hr …
Today, even WORSE, with discrepancy now 4-hrs !!!_!With trying to run a National Championship Sailing event, Windy could be highly useful, however with present very light & variable conditions beneath a High-pressure ridge, this wind-barbs facility has become a ‘laugh’, unfortunately.
-
@stevecrye @OultonBen @Ftjwinfs We are planning to release v46.1 next week, and I already checked the testing version and it seems to be fixed there.
-
@Suty Thank you for the update.
Does the update only focus on the consistency of wind bards and tabulated data?
Or does the update also fix the current issue, that the tabulated data changes for all models, when I select a different model? For a reference, see my post from July 7th 21:05 above.
Please include this as well, from my perspective this is even more critical than the inconsistency of tabulated data and wind barbs.
