How do I select default forecast model?
-
How do I select the a default forecast that will be remembered on every app opening? I seem to recall reading this was an option. But if this isn’t/no longer an option, big annoyance. Some models are more accurate during diffent seasons than others. This involves forcing me the extra steps to select the same model.
If this isn’t an option, I’d say it significantly undermines the utility of this app. If you offer Premium users a selection of forecast models, I imagine they are paying for the app so assessment of one or any of those Premium options can be used as a default, a it is a model that is the most accurate for where they live/travel. As far as I can tell, this app imposed the EMCWF model on paying member.
And, it is inconvenient to do multiple navigation taps just to be to able “compare forecasts”, let alone the fact get they are displayed in a very user unfriendly way.

@Aura-Lynx agree completely. This is not practical at all. I am in Euripe where the ICON-EU seems to bee the most accurate model and want that to be the default every time.

Hello,
I was just looking for the instructions how to change the default weather model on this forum.
However, I found out that it is not possible unfortunately but it is surprisingly possible on apple watch.
I saw there were many users who were asking about it here.
Some of them did not receive any reply, same as in this post :( but there was also the reply from windy team that this feature is on the development list.Could you please let us know if this feature will be implemented soon?
Thank you very much :)

@Brancis
Go to layer, model you prefer.
e.g. wind, ICON-EU, surface.Then.... go to "settings"....
..."Start up layer and location"...
...."Use last overlay".Now, every time you open windy
you'll see the surface winds from ICON-EU model. -

Unless you select the Weather Radar or Satellite layers, in which case you will switch back to ECMWF. -
On startup of the app it works. Windy remembers for basic-mode, that I selected e.g. ICON-EU during the last session.
But if you then select wind-mode, Windy automatically switches to ECMWF which is then shown on the map. Along the lower screen, still "ICON-EU" is highlighted, although the map shows ECMWF. This is a bug. If you then switch back to basic-mode, Windy automatically switches back to ICON-EU.
@Suty Please realize that this is buggy behavior, as I described at https://community.windy.com/topic/41048/wind-mode-wrong-data-shown-on-map-when-selecting-e-g-icon
Please allow users to switch the models for wind-data shown on the map when being in wind-mode.
Do not automatically switch models without user interaction.

Hello, thanks a lot for your reply, it works the way you described for the wind, etc.The thing is that I am using as my default layer the weather radar and as Idefix37 mentioned, it is not working for such layer.
For this reason, I was hoping that the Windy team will implement to directly select the default model in settings.
As I mentioned, someone from the team already mentioned in forum that it will be implemented after several users asked for it.
Therefore, I hope that someone will let us know if and when it is going to be in place, I am really looking forward to it, will save me couple of addional clicks every time I open the app :)
Thanks a lot :)
