I have found that every change in UI during last two years is change to worse. Windy should fire UI designers, and make a warning to test team. Just return old version, there is nothing to discuss.

        @Koss5 @acummings

Have you secretly read my mind?

I full agree with your complaints.

Windy is an app that should be meant to transport a lot of information as efficient as possible. With efficient I mean, the user experience needs to be such that the user needs as little as possible interaction to change the visualized data, location, etc.

Two years ago they decided that now the location is selected by moving the map. One of the worst decisions ever for Windy. Before is was an intuitive tap with one finger.

Then they decided that instead of a clear list of data-options, some random colorful thumbnails are "better" for the user to select data. Back then there was a huge outcry here in the forum to go back to the previous solution (plain list). They seemed to simply ignore that.

And right now, they decided to change model selection to a menu, that requires three clicks to achieve exactly the same what was possible before with one click.

At the same time, when changing to wind-mode, the data on the map changes automatically from the model I selected before to ECMWF.

In german we say, it is a "Trauerspiel", when you watch how someone deliberately ruins a formerly nice thing.

It is a huge miracle to me, what the UX-designers at Windy think. As someone, who uses Windy as a paying user since now about five years (sailing), I fundamentally can not understand why they do these things. I would fire the UX-designers as well, I guess...;)

But seriously, lets hope that one day they come to reason.

        @Suty

I agree. The pop up box is not a step forward. Hides the bottom dispaly area for the location forecast.
It's attractive, but a pain. I prefer function over form!

In addition to this pop up getting in the way of seeing the one hour forecast and the map, I am experiencing repeated situations where the pop up window stays up and unresponsive to any clicks. Other times it will not change models but at least the window will close. Reloading the page does nothing. This is happening equally with Firefox, duckduckgo and chrome on a Windows 10 machine. Another problem is every time I look to see different models it changes the map position and zoom to the start up location forcing even more wasted time. The direct comparisons the old interface afforded are the things that attracted me to be a premium user.

I can only support the criticism of the other commenters:
Usability has deteriorated by the new weather model selector and a number of new deficiencies been introduced

              • selector can often not be closed when ECMWF is active
              • selections are sometimes not effective (although this bug may predate the current implementation
              • re-centering the display with new selection is a nuisance
              • when selecting ICON-D2 erratic time jumps occur - first forward then backward
which means that when toggling between ICON-D2 and other models the time steps back continuously

It seems this UI re-design was neither planned nor executed/QC'ed carefully.

                Please fix this silly mistake.
It's making Windy unpleasant to use.

                  best regards

Totally agree with above comments re change to the toolbar at the bottom of the viewing window...."if it ain't broke, don't fix it!".

Is there a reason for the change to the structure of the UI?????

I have posted a suggestion in the past that may resolve this issue for PC users ---- provide some "keyboard short-cut keys" allowing accessing to and changing of NWP models in addition to the current method of mouse clicking. The Windy Team have made available short-cut keys for some other functions.

I am not sure if devs, or decision makers at windy really understand what they did here? This is so frustrating, I am seeing my use cases as unusable now, up to the point I am thinking to cancel my premium sub.

Please, please revert to old model switch!

Another vote - please bring it back. It looks like the entire component was designed by AI without a human UI/UX. Another UX problem is that now it is not immediately clear when the model was last updated -> how relevant it is...

@idefix37 "clearly displayed" - That's not the wording I would use.

Do you remember where this information was before? Right in the bar.

The entire modal now hides the weather forecast for the next X hours, so you have to change the model, remember when it was updated, close it, remember what the forecast was, and repeat the whole process for all relevant models in the area.

You could say that you could use model comparison, but nope, another UX fail. With the hourly forecast, for which I pay premium, you can't see the forecast for the next hours and the time the model was updated at the same time. The constant horizontal scroll to get this information is similarly unfortunate. In this case, it would be enough to put sticked to the right "model-desc flex-row svelte-5z0hfd" and sticked to the left "legend-wrapper svelte-5z0hfd" element. Not that hard.

The full information about model updates is still available by clicking the small circled i in bottom right corner. This has not been changed.

                                  1. I can't see the i in the bottom right corner on the default forecast page for a location.
                                  2. This thread is about this very problem - that information that used to be immediately visible now has to be searched for, and that switching models takes three clicks instead of one.

@idefix37 There is a special bowl in hell for UI designers using light grey font over white background, example of that is on your screenshot. (By the way why you didn't underline it with light yellow?). Your UI designer should be fired one more time.
No, It is NOT CLEARLY DISPLAYED!
