      Hello,
I see that when you are in boat mode and you right click on the mouse to select "show weather picker" If you then opt for max wind gusts and in a certain location (whereever you leave the weather picker) then as you slide around on the time line you only get a message saying data is not available for this location. It is the same in the pacific or in the atlantic. Meaning that you cannot see the possibly max wind gusts in a location without refreshing the page each time.
Is this a simple fix and probably jsut something i am doing wrong at my end? or is there a further solution?
      Many thanks

        Hi,
Should we guess that you are using the Route planner when you see the behavior you described?

Hi, yes that is correct. I set up several waypoints between two locations and as i try to run the timeline forward with the weather picker on a location i only get a message telling me the infomration is not available. I now notice that as i move the time line around i sometimes get a result with a wind speed or a wave height, othertimes, it takes a couple of seconds to load and other times the data will just not appear. It also appears to take a second for "loading elevation" in each location. (Just below where it is displying the max windspeed on the weather picker.)

I've tried to replicate your issue with the weather picker near the route. It works well but sometime during half a second it shows "data is not available", but then it displays normally the gust speed.

I dont understand why you use the weather picker as the gusts are displayed in the table.
And why do you need to know elevation at sea ? in the picker ?

By the way with my customized color scale I know what wind and gusts are predicted near the boat position. For instance bright green corresponds to Bft 5 for wind i.e. from 17kt to 21kt for wind and gusts.

I work as a weather router for sailing yachts and part of the work is looking for the best weather window to depart. After a boat has departed then then it is possible to use the table to see the weather forecasted along the route. However, part of the work is deciding the best day to depart. The departure point and arrival point will be the same whatever day they leave but i need to have a bigger picture of conditions before a boat leaves and by checking into the future on the timeslider i can see when the winds increase. For example i have a yacht in Tonga that wants to get to Fiji. There is a low pressure expected to pass to the south of there route early next week. To plan the best day for departure i need to know what wind speeds are expected in a certain location if they leave on a Saturday a Sunday or a Monday. The timeline bar at the bottom works after a boat has left and is under way but before you leave you have options and it is good to be able to look briefly to see if the winds are expected stonrger to the North or to the West for example and on what days, this gives you a basis to start to build a departure plan on.

You are right, i dont need to know the elevation at sea, it was more a commet that the slow loading of the elevation at sea level (which didnt happen before) might be a contributing factor to why i am told there is no info available.

I see for myself the problem continues and seems to be very intermitent and loading sometimes as you slide the slider forward into the future and not in others.

Hopefully below are a few screen shots showing the same imaginary route planned but with the slider time line in different points i sometimes get told i have no available info but other times i do. Is there the possibility to a fix to this.

I don't think you use the Route planner correctly.
After plotting the route and choosing the mobile (boat), you have to set the speed. However there is a glitch with the latest update: the button to activate the speed is missing, but clicking on the word "Speed" activates it. You need to do that otherwise the map will only show the weather on the departure date, not during the passage.
As in my screenshot, you should see 2 yellow tags (Start and Finish) with a white stripe between them. Your screenshots don't show them, so they are not correct.
Step 1- Scroll the Start tag to change the departure date
Step 2- To view the weather conditions the boat will encounter, click on the table and scroll the small gray panel. You’ll see the boat position moving along the route and the weather map updating simultaneously.

So there is no need to use the weather picker in the Route planner.

I find strange that you check first the Gusts. When planning a sail trip I mainly look at Wind forecast because the mean wind is the “engine” of the sailboat and you need a good breeze in the right direction to maintain the planned speed. In my screenshot, the wind direction is not favorable from Tuesday and later after 500NM sailed there is a lack of wind. I’ve not tried to optimise the departure date.

I guess we plan routes differently. I dont just check gusts first, i check all conditions that might effect a persons trip, depending if they are single handed, an experienced couple, an older couple with no want to sail through heavy fronts, a full race crew with a fixed start time and so on.
However, knowing what the top gusts are for what i do and the way i work is a very useful tool, especially if you have average winds of 15-20kts but then a front that could pack 35kts, it helps you give for warning to boats to allow them to set up their sails for the night or alter a shift pattern if they have inexperienced person on watch or a short handed and want more hands on deck.
Information is power in this game and the more i can give to people at sea the more they can be prepared to be safe at sea.
For all the years i have used Windy i did not have the sign that said "data not available for this location". It was only to know if you are able to bring back the data that could be available for the locations.
The route i have shown as examples from Fiji to Australia is not a route i am prepping, i had only chosen those screen shots to show you the infomration i was being given in the wind picker.
I agree that after a boat has departed i can use the displayed information to look at conditions but when you have a boat that is asking for when is the best window to leave in i find it easier to be able to look at a bigger picture of the ocean and look at areas that have "bigger weather" to help see it all visually and then be able to decide the best time to leave.
Only really asking if the missing data can be shown all the time, or if this current version of windy will stay as it is.

                  Many thanks

I don't know if future updates will allow you to use the Route Planner with the weather picker as you do because that's not how it was designed and intended to be used. Right now Windy website is sometime rather slow, this should be improved and this may be related to the removal of Graphics compatibity mode.
