Radar ‘No Data’ For Malta
-
Hello, looks like the Radar for the Maltese islands has stopped working.
It’s showing as ‘no data’ as at today.

@Luca-Cachia-Morena
Hi, this is because the Maltese radar data provider discontinued to supply this data.

Hi, from what I can see on other websites (such as rainviewer)
they are getting live radar feeds, its only Windy which has stopped displaying the data.Rainviewer shows individual clouds, its not simulated radar, its live radar:
https://www.rainviewer.com/weather-radar-map-live.htmlAt the same time, Windy had also lost radar from Sigonella , this has a very large sweep of the central mediterranean. So radars A & C were both lost at the same time. only B is left, and B has a small range, and most of it over land, the central mediterranean is not covered.

compare with how it was:

Thanks

@randi1
Hi,
Your screenshot from 2023 is interesting but you already posted it 2 or 3 times, so I know it. I quoted your message in my post here above, so it is not necessary to repeat it to me !Instead of giving the link for the rainviewer app, you better post a screenshot. I don’t want to download this app to understand what you mean !

Good morning,
that rainviewer link would open the web page showing the radar view in your browser, no need to install any app. At the moment the sky is clear over the Mediterranean, when there are some clouds I will send a screenshot.When I first opened the Rainviewer radar page, the cloud pattern looked very much like live radar and not simulated radar like that on the accuweather page.
Rainviewer also gives the source of its data:

These are the Italian sources

Windy remains my favourite app, I hope I am not coming across as critising, I am just trying to help gather information on what is currently working, and what is not to help zero in on which part in this complex system is not working. Thanks

@randi1
What you show are pictures. These are not links !
Please copy and paste these links in your post in order we can use them. -

I copied the links as text below. I included also the EPSG numbers (not sure if you need them or not - I have only started learning about weather radar )Italy Data sources

Malta International Airport - Malta Radar Images (EPSG:4326)In the meantime I got a screenshot from the Rainviewer App for Malta (two tiny clouds have now appeared) and to compare with Las Palmas (which has more rain in its area ). It can be seen that the clouds are not simulated radar, but live radar inside a circular swept area.

Hi @randi1, thank You for reporting the issue, data from Malta Airport are now available again:

-
excellent work @Filip_K , the radar works like a charm!
I dont want to sound ungrateful, but is there any chance you could check if the code which is reading from Sigonella station in Sicily is receiving an error message? It is the most poweful radar in the central mediterranean.
(I arrived that it is Sigionella, from checking where the centre of the swept circle "no data" would be).
Thanks
-
Hi @randi1. I'm not sure I understand. Do You mean why there is no-data in the area around Sicily, that was previously covered?
Our data come from DPC (You can check the data directly here on their web). Currently, their radar network is undergoing maintenance/upgrade, so some of the radars are down. Which is also the case of Monte Lauro site:

According to this post, it should take around 4-5 weeks.

@Filip_K yes that explains it, thanks
