Yesterday I was given two very different forecasts for wind and wind gusts at the same location. My Ipad said it was going to be too windy to boat in the afternoon (18 wind, 35/37 gusts), so we decided not to go out. As that time approached, the wind didn't come up as expected, so I looked at Windy on my phone and found a very different forecast (11 wind 22/23 gusts). I went back to my Ipad expecting an update, but the strong winds forecasted earlier remained.

I'd like to know how this is possible. I'm frustrated because we missed a beautiful day on the water with friends. I rely heavily on Windy for forecasts and was thinking of paying for premium, but after this, I find myself wanting a more reliable source for weather information.

        • Did you select the same model on your devices? I see ECMWF in one screenshot, but not the other.

        • Have you checked that the model update is the same on your devices? This is usually the reason for a difference between the two devices. This information is displayed in the menu.

By the way, have you tried different models, especially NAM and HRRR? These high-resolution models should provide better forecasts for a mountain lake.
In addition selecting "Wind" instead of "Basic" will give you a panel of forecasts.
