Disable auto switch to outdoor map on zoom
-
Hello,
I'm requesting a feature to prevent the map from automatically switching to the outdoor map background at high zoom levels. When viewing layers like the wind map, the colored background is a critical visual aid, as it provides more context than just the wind particles.
Please add an option to disable the auto switch.
This provides a much better wind information:

The wind particles alone are not very helpful

You think that showing the wind speed colors at higher zoom level would reveal more details. Unfortunately it doesn’t, because the grid spacing of ICON-D2 is 2.2 km. Windy smooths the forecast values at grid points by interpolation. It can’t bring more details. Then why do you look at wind speed at 1500m high. Is it for flight?

Thanks for your reply.
Okay I understand.
Yes sometimes I'm using windy for flights but this time I was just playing around.I'm actually waiting for some wind to wind surf. The switch from colored background to outdoor map feels just a bit too early, despite no more information can be displayed.
E.g. I want to analyze the wind at lake como at DomasoThe Domaso label isn't even shown at this zoom level. Zooming in is therefore intuitive

Next zoom level is already shown with outdoor map

It's not a big thing, but switching to outdoor map one or two zoom levels later would be nice. At least for me 😉

@Robin-Enderle
OK I understand.
With the Distance&planning feature, I’ve plotted a fictive grid of 4 points at 2.2km spacing, same as ICON-D2 resolution. It is not the precise location of the real grid, but the spacing is correct.
At higher zoom level you can’t get more details of the wind colors.

With some drawing sometimes it is better for understanding.
For wind surf I recommend using Wind instead of Basic in detailed forecast panel. In mountains better to use high resolution model, such as AROME 1.3km.
